Hello everyone I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is John and I am from the state of Kansas. I am an Atheist and have been since I was in 6th grade. I attended Roman Catholic grade schools and High School which really helped me further my atheism and instill a curiosity in me about other beliefs. I currently am a full time college student studying Environmental Science and this site looks like a good resource to help further my knowledge of the world around me!
Hello John_5.0
How old is somebody in the 6th grade? I think you'll find this little corner of the Internet a lot more interesting than daytime TV; at least I hope so!
Thanks for making the effort to sign up and join in.

Cheers for the information. A significant proportion of the members don't live in the USA so '6th' grade doesn't mean a lot (if anything). It's good to see you sussed out the problems associated with institutionalised superstitions (religions) so early!
What do you get up to in your 'spare time' ;D

I was unaware that a lot of the members were not from the United States! That is very cool to know. And yes very early, in religion class of all things.
Do you mean as in a hobby?

Off the top of my head I can recall members from at least Norway, Sweden, UK (inc me), Australia, Bazil, The Netherlands, Cyprus, Canada, Mexico, Italy and the USA.
We also have inherent atheists, ex-theist atheists, agnostics, Christian and Muslim members.
Yes. Hobbies, sports that sort of thing. I put spare time in quotes as you may not have any! ;D
Wow thats really cool that you have members of all beliefs on this one forum, thats great.
And yes I have a few hobbies. The first is playing electric guitar, music has always fascinated me. And cars, the 5.0 in my username stands for the five liter mustang I modify and drive daily. My original major was actually automotive restoration technologies before I changed my mind!

Ye, them villains.
The ruin the economy to save the planet types.
Pretending carbon is a problem just to get a lucrative job.
That environmentalism is like a religion I tell ya, not a proper guy in the sky religion either, it's all twisted girlie mother earth subversive lies.
Like I said I drive a 5.0 mustang so I would hope im not one of those people!!

Egor has a Mustang, although I think it's a modern rather than a classic.
Welcome!

I'm an inherent atheist, in that I have never been a believer. I was inoculated against the religious meme by my mother who dragged me to church just enough to demonstrate how ludicrous institutionalised superstitions actually are. My father provided a good antidoate as well, being an atheist, although I never recall him using the term.
But I think the golden rule is a good basis for running one's life so although I don't like religions I feel a person should be able to believe what they like as I want to believe what I like.

That is very cool. Both my parents are Roman Catholic so I was dragged to church as well, looks like their intentions were different but we both got the same result lol.
@ John
Take the / out of the first quote tag so you get [quote]...text...[/quote] then things should work ok.
I used to hang out at Richard Dawkin's Forum (RDF) until it imploded and they had a huge membership there. The ratio of inherent atheists to ex-theists was 48:52 and a little over half the ex-theists were ex-Roman Catholics, which isn't a surprise given the large number of Catholics out there. The interesting thing was the very high number of atheist Jehovah's witnesses. Some had 'come out' but many had not and were very much keeping their atheism to themselves. A few were elders in the church.
