I totally want to post about the Flying Spaghetti Monster on my Facebook profile and my blog and stuff. But all of my family's Mormon, and most of the people on my friends list are religious and I don't want it to come across as trolling. Has anyone else here proclaimed to be a pastafarianist? If so, what kinds of reactions have you got?
I mean, I wish there was a way to do it with the understanding that I'm just trying to be funny and that people should take it as a joke, not as an insult.
Oh, and that guy that claimed Pastafarianism as his religion just so he could wear a pasta bowl on his head? Brilliant. He's my new hero.
I suspect you'll find a lot of people here have been touched by his noodly appendage!
Ramen! ;D
I think Old Git is some kind of high pirate in the FSM church, I don't know the details.
He is old enough to have sailed with the Dread Pirate Roberts.

I LOVE that movie! I can't tell you how many times I've seen it. We even did a skit about it in my first year of college.
I think a lot of your family who believe a guy looked in a hat and saw words might have the irony- so to speak- of the FSM, in all His Noodliness, lost on them for some reason. ;)
Maybe if you cushion the blow by claiming the FSM was translated from the "lost" volume of Joseph Smith. If you can sell them on the idea of a "lost" mormon manuscript you can pretty much claim it says whatever you want. Kinda like Joseph did with the whole book of mormon.

No, I'm just a long-time Pastafarian, though not one of the original lot.
Welcome. keithpenrod, may you be blessed by His Noody Appendage and bathed in His healing sauce.
May I repeat here my proposal that we follow Venganza and Pharyngula in referring to the coming festive season as 'Monkey'?
So, would an "antipastifarian" be someone who is against the church of FSM? Or someone who worships appetizers? :D

Prawn cocktail please.

Would it help at all to know that you can insert "Pastafarian" into your profile here on this forum, in the same place where I, for example, typed "Stevilist"?
Actually, I really like the whole Pastafarian meme. Don't be surprised if one day I join their saucy ranks! ;)

What's a Stevilist?

Pharoh Cat has become a fan of Stevil one of the other members here ;D

That's awesome. I didn't realize there was a forum. I'm in. ;D
Excellent that you've joined. I'm DavidH over there and also among the Toadfish. Just as here, there are some very nice, very funny and very, very bright people over there.
There used to be one person here who, I'm almost sure, is a Toadfish.
I was hoping posts in the religion section would highlight the conflict between the rational and the religious. While I appreciate that your post has a comedy element, it seems unrelated to religion. I assume that you are not mormon, but cannot assume that you are therefore rational.

The OP concerned Pastafarianism, so that's what I was on about. If you want serious threads about religion, this forum has many to offer - be our guest, take your pick.
And don't write Pastafarianism off as ridiculous; it was invented with a very specific anti-creationist purpose and now serves largely as a mockery of religion.

Ah, so I don't suppose you'd be interested in a game of tautology tennis? :-\
The threads by Sophus, Martin TK, Recusant, Jac3510 may be interesting, perhaps people will join if you comment on them.
You can start your own thread and set some rules.

Indeed I have! Bask in the Stevilian tenet, worded by his acolyte:
"Nature is an amoral system, power permitting whatever power can accomplish, so every creature has the natural right to do whatever it can, and every law is an infringement, sometimes reasonable, always questionable."
See the Rights thread in the Philosophy section.
But better yet - have a bowl of spaghetti! :)
Grrr. The anti-spam "type some bullshit" gizmo at the FSM site is either broken or I'm blind.
Oh, dear. I never need to use it. Maybe it'll get fixed; it was OK for keithpenrod. I presume, since he's joined OK.
I got in at last. But consider what I had to do. Here's the thing I was looking at:
Letters are case-sensitive. I decided to guess like so: "32Tzsx9" - and it turns out I was right. But I had no idea I was right until the thing told me so. All the letters are the same height! Subtle geometrical considerations made me decide the "zsx" squigglies were lower case.
Any way. Sorry to rant. If you were to check out the Non-Religious Pet Peeves thread, you would find a post by yours truly, on this very topic.
But I got in! And I made my two introductory posts! I await approval.

I wonder what they'll have us do when computers learn how to read this stuff (I'm pretty sure that day's around the corner). Maybe it'll show a video of a person speaking and you'll have to read their lips. :o
Hmm.....
Just bring back the death penalty for spamming - that should put 'em off.
