Title: Hitchens vs. Blair debate - Hitchens' pact
Post by: BillDugan on December 13, 2011, 06:11:26 PM
For some reason I can't post in the Religion forum so I'm putting this here (my apologies upfront, as I know it doesn't belong here).

I know this debate happened a ways back, but I've been listening to it in the background today at work:
http://youtu.be/ddsz9XBhrYA (http://youtu.be/ddsz9XBhrYA)

At about the 1:00:00 mark exactly Hitchens proposes a pact with the faithful:

1.) Do not want your religion taught in schools
2.) Do not want a government subsity for your religion
3.) Do not want your religion imposed on others by violence

He goes on to sort of address some of the violence inflicted on those within the religion as well (i.e. child genital mutilation).  Would you add to the terms of this "pact"?  Thoughts?

Hi bill, once you reach 10 posts you can post outside of the "getting to know you section"  I know you've been a member since 2010 but the rule is automatically applied by post count.  So just go say hi to some people a few times to unlock the rest of the forum.

I can't think of anything to add to it, it looks like it covers everything I think it should.

3 could be extended a bit  - violence alone doesn't cover by any means all abuse.
