The time for the building thread has arrived.

Deerhurst church, Gloucestershire. The west wall in the centre of the photo is pretty much as it was when it was built in the 8th century (we know it was there in 804). The arches of the side walls are modern - they date from around 1300.
Did you help with the newer walls, OG? :P ;D
Nope, I never did hold with this new-fangled Decorated style. It's Romanesque or nothing for me. :)

IMHO architecture has got consistently worse since the Romanesque period, with a few redeeming exceptions such as fan-vaulting in C15.

Its the baptism pool, it can be filled up more. The concept; there is a river that runs beneath the church and is inspired by digging in sand near water where eventually you will reach water if you dig deep enough. Another picture to show how deep it can go.

Yes, I've read The Pillars Of The Earth, but not seen the TV version. Follet has quite a way of getting across the feel of medieval life from the minutiae and not from great historic events. I've read another similar one of his; can't remember the title.

Bigger windows and doors, higher walls, ya know? ;D

Sometimes it's just nice to get away from those more down to earth ;)

Shape ... you're right, but you need to be more precise. ;D
Damn, they look like they are slightly tapered at one end but cant be sure.

Green Man - yes indeed, but that's not very unusual. I've got quite a lot of Green Man shots from Herefordshire churches.
I have a bit of an obsession with trying to spot pagan gods on churches, I have always wanted to try and find a "sheela na gigs" but have never seen one.
Well, this is one of my favorite buildings in my city of Bergen, Norway. It's the theater and it's called Den nationale scene.

I went to see Ibsen's Ghost (Gjengangere) this fall.

Sorry, mate, no cigar. It's much more straightforward than that. ;D (heh, heh!)

There's one at Kilpeck, of which I posted the S door earlier:

Our ancestors were not subtle people.
What intrigues me -several of those Kilpeck corbels have been hacked off; they say on the orders of "a Victorian lady" who thought they were too rude. If she let that sheela-na-gig alone, how bad were the rude ones?
Please don't blow up Paris just yet, I would like to visit the place! ;D
Cool looking building...I don't really know what it is though:

I have always been fascinated by the Sears Tower. Even been up it a few times. Each time just leaves me speechless ;D

The funny thing now is it's no longer called the Sears Tower. It's been the Willis Tower for a couple of years. And the very appropriate nickname that has come from the people of Chicago is "The Big Willy".
True.
We're going to have this wonderful building in Dallas sometime in 2013...currently under construction, most of the skin is on.
