Title: California Earthquake
Post by: rlrose328 on October 31, 2007, 03:38:01 AM
Mom just called a half-hour ago... she's in central California.  She said they had a significant earthquake, the lamp was still swinging.  Here are the details:

Anyone else experience this one?

My mom was in a trailer less than 1 mile from the epicenter of the big SF quake in 1989, so she's really not tickled when the earth shakes.  She was convinced it was Revelations, The End.  At least this time, she's fairly calm.

Oh my god! That earthquake was in Central California!? I felt it in the East Bay. My wife freaked out because she had no idea what was going on.

According to that website, it was 7 miles East of Milpitas... is that near you?   Mom felt it in Merced, shook the hanging light.

I am in Fremont, so Milpitas is about 15 minutes away. My wife cracked me up because she had no idea what an earthquake was, growing up in Vietnam. She thought the restaurant we were in caused the earthquake somehow.

I'm near downtown San Jose, and it shook the house quite a bit. This was my beagle's first earthquake and he was a bit shaken up. As far as I know there were few if any injuries and no fatalities. It was only a 5.6, after all. The nice thing about a 5.6 is that if you keep an eye out for the 20 or so seconds, you get great ideas about what needs to be bolted down and such. All of my bookshelves were fine, but the lcd needs to be fastened to the wall.
