Hello from the north east of Italy. I'm originally from the UK but have been wandering around for a lot of my life.

I suppose I'm an atheist, though I've always found the term a bit strange. It's that negative prefix a-, which makes it sound as though being a theist is the default position. In my world view, not believing in the supernatural should be the default position. Maybe that makes me a hopeless optimist as well as a godless heathen?  Now that's a term I like! ;)

Hello and welcome to HAF, Ildiko.  I think "godless heathen" is just fine; almost as mellifluous as "infidel barbarian." A more formal term which has a nice ring to it is "freethinker."

Honestly, I just want to be able to use a sig/avatar.

I like any neutral phrase that some people consider offensive. I was reading another forum where a poster called themself Catholic, yet all of their viewpoints made it clear that they were agnostic. They basically said that we can't know if there is a God or not. When another poster said the OP sounded like an agnostic, they were offended and said there was no need to resort to name calling!
