Title: Introduction
Post by: scepticus on September 20, 2007, 01:36:46 AM
Hi,

My name is Andy and I am a 17 years old and begining to open myself to the wider atheist community. A unique thing about me is that I am an atheist from a Jesuit high school. (For those who don't know, the Jesuits are a group of Roman Catholic Priests)

Welcome to the forum, Andy. Have fun posting.
I myself am a relative newcomer here, and though I haven't been active as much as I could be, I can say that this is a great forum.

Jesuits. Their spirituality (ignation spirituality, isn't it called?) is pretty interesting when compared to other orthodox catholic systems. Do you know any of it or practiced any?

I do not claim to be an expert on Ignation Spirituality, but basically it's the beleif that through prayer one can make decisions not influenced by their physical being.

However, an easier way to explain it as a coarse English teacher of mine once put it was "Think with your other head."

I thought that's how most guys get themselves in trouble.

Welcome to the forum :)

Hi Andy... Welcome!  :-)

I'm married to a man who is a Jesuit-educated atheist.  He credits the free-thinking education he received at the hands of the easy-going and very accepting Jesuits for his embracing atheism.  At least at his HS, they encouraged thinking outside the bible, using reason to apply the biblical lessons to everyday life.  Are they like that at your HS?

That's correct. I've attended both public and private schools and my Jesuit HS has the most non Christianity of any school I have ever attended.
