Never know what to say as an introduction.
I was raised by a baptist and a lapsed catholic (who settled on very high Church of England). Stopped going to church when the vicar told me animals didn't feel pain. Became an atheist after studying for a degree with lots of religious philosophy and history in it.
Joined today as I have a specific question about a confirmation gift, which I'll pose in the lounge.
Hello nightwish
Welcome to HAF

Hello Nightwish.
I've been very good today, can you please give Mick Jagger back his 1960s voice, relieve Keith of his arthritis and return MT to the band.
Welcome!
Welcome! Hope to read some of your philosophies soon.
Thank you for the welcome.
But I'm afraid magic pudding, that if I had those kind of powers I'd cure my own arthritis and return Roger Waters to Pink Floyd. Oh, and get Led Zep to reform with Bonham junior on drums.
Hello. I hope you hang around even after your question is answered.
Hello Nightwish,
I'll be interested in hearing about the state of religion across the pond.
Welcome
Hello and welcome to HAF.
"The state of the religion across the pond". That's an interesting question, which I've been mulling over. But would it count as a "controversal subject"?

I think you are correct in that it is the sort of question best broached in the religion section.

Must have been a Cartesian.
Obscure philosophy joke FTW!

That takes me back - "animals are mere automatia" or something similar. The sad thing (from the vicar's point of view, not mine) is that he didn't explain his thinking, which was, at least 30 years, still part of CofE doctrine. I suspect that if he'd explained, rather than stomp off, that I'd've continued with church going.
After reading all of this I am a little intimidated. :o I am by no means a person of intellect.

Neither am I. But I've never let that stop me.

don't worry...it takes at least a bit of sense to figure it all out.
It took college to help me straighten things out and from your intro it seems you didn't even need that budge.
