The "Jewish" Sam Miller who Catholics love to spam (defending the Catholic Church) is a liar and joke.
Sam Miller made up totally false figures in his speech (and admitted it later): -
“Now let me give you some figures that you as Catholics should know and remember. For example, research by Richard Blackman at Fuller Theological Seminary shows that 12% of the 300 Protestant clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner; 38% acknowledged other inappropriate sexual contact. In a 1990 study by the United Methodist Church, 41.8% of clergywomen reported unwanted sexual behavior by a colleague; 17% of laywomen said that their own pastors had sexually harassed them. Phillip Jenkins concludes in his book “Pedophiles and Priests†that while 1.7% of the Catholic clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia, 10% of Protestant ministers have been found guilty of pedophilia.“
The REAL figures are 5.4% (http://www.bishop-accountability.org (http://www.bishop-accountability.org)) of Catholic Priests and a fraction of one per cent of Methodists have been accused.
He later apologized when questioned.
It also turns out that Sam Miller is Jewish by blood but is a Christian who has donated to a number of Christian Causes including the Salvation Army. Not one penny has he given to any non Jewish charity or cause.
He is a publicity hound who made up all the facts and figures in his speech.
None are factual.
Typical of Catholic Smoke and Mirror con tricks.
NOTES
The U.S. bishops have reported receiving allegations of abuse by 5,948 priests in 1950-2010, or 5.4% of the 109,694 U.S. priests active since 1950.
Other percentages
After the March 2009 release of audit documents by the NH AG, the names of 74 accused Manchester priests are known, or over 8.9% of the 831 diocesan priests, which extrapolates to 9,768 nationally
Covington diocese states that 9.6% of its priests have been accused, which extrapolates to 10,531 nationally
Over 10% of Providence RI priests have been accused, which extrapolates to over 10,969 nationally
Richard Sipe estimates that 9% of U.S. priests have offended, which extrapolates to 9,872 priests nationally
Thanks for that update regarding Mr. Miller's mendacity. One of our Christian members used his speech as the starting point for a thread (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4814). As you might imagine, they didn't make much headway.
What is most interesting is this item first appeared in 2008, but despite the retraction and a claim that he was misquoted, the Catholic media continues to circulate and reprint it in it's original form on a mass scale.
Like the myth of Mother Teresa, everything the Catholic Church says and does turns out to be a total lie if you do your homework.

Do you happen to have a link to Mr. Miller's admission? I see a report (http://www.ncregister.com/blog/be_proud_you_are_catholic_speech_contains_error/) (and an apology for using the Miller article) on a Catholic website that the
Sojourners magazine apologized and retracted the numbers which Miller used in his speech, but have been unable to find any sort of a retraction or apology from Miller himself.

Again, would you mind linking to a site where one might find this information?
These references would be very helpful if somebody comes along brandishing the Miller speech here in the future.
Thanks (This time in advance.)
Businessman Sam Miller said he would give $25,000 to the Salvation Army to supports its emergency men’s shelter in Cleveland, if other donors match his proposed contribution. Mr. Miller is co-chairman of Forest City Enterprises, a real estate development company. He said he was responding to Sam Fulwood’s opinion column published on 16 March. Philip Mason of the Salvation Army said the contribution would help pay for shelter operating costs. Mr. Mason said the Salvation Army is still talking with city and county officials on a renewal contract for shelter operations.

Sam Miller's Company - Forest City Enterprises
In a Huffington Post blog, Daniel Goldstein called Atlantic Yards[15] "a corrupt land grab," "a taxpayer ripoff," "a bait and switch of epic proportions," and "a complete failure of democracy."
The MTA appraisal valued the railyard at $214 million in 2005; Forest City Ratner offered $50 million in cash, while another bidder offered $150 million. FCR eventually boosted its bid to $100 million, and said the overall value of its bid was higher than the appraised value, which was validated by the courts.
Forest City Ratner offered the condo owners in 636 Pacific St. $850/sq. foot, the condo owners at 24 Sixth Ave (Spalding Buildings) $650/sq. foot and undisclosed amounts to renters. Sellers of condos signed a nondisclosure agreement, termed a "gag order" by opponents.[16]

COMPLAINT
For over ten years, Medical Mutual of Ohio ("Medical Mutual"), formerly known as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio, required that any hospital in the Cleveland area wishing to do business with it agree to a "Most Favorable Rates" ("MFR") provision. That provision in effect required hospitals to charge Medical Mutual's competitors significantly more, often 15-30% more, than they charged Medical Mutual for identical services or suffer significant penalties. In doing so, Medical Mutual substantially increased the cost of hospital services and health insurance for businesses and consumers in the Cleveland area. Moreover, by enforcing the MFR clause without regard to differences in products, patient mix, case management, and contracting methodologies, Medical Mutual's MFR clause stifled creative contractual arrangements between hospitals and payers, deterred development of innovative health care plans, and hindered the growth of less-costly health plans.
Medical Mutual's recent announcement that it would abandon its MFR clause, an announcement occasioned by the imminence of this action, does not adequately protect consumers against either the reinstitution of the MFR clause or the use of similar practices equally pernicious to competition. For these reasons, the United States of America, acting under the direction of the Attorney General, brings this action to enjoin Medical Mutual from further violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1.

SUMMARY
It is clear that Sam Miller received massive contracts for his corrupt Medical Mutual of Ohio insurance company in exchange for his fraudulent support of the Catholic Church in regard to massive child abuse and rape.
It is also clear he is NOT a Jew but Christian and a racketeer of the first order.
It further more is clear those promoting the Sam Miller Jewish man supporting the Catholic Church myth, were fully aware of this.
Correction. (As I am sure some Catholic will bring this up as a defense).
Sam Miller is a trustee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland (not worthy of note by Forbes Magazine) along with one HUNDRED others. A non active title that usually reflects a donation. With the numerous Catholic Charities he is the CHAIRMAN AND A SENIOR BOARD MEMBER.
Apologies for that error.
On further research I have found that the Forbes article omitted a number of Jewish charities that Sam is involved with. Despite this, his main interest and most influential role is with Catholic charities and Catholic societies that promote the faith.
He has received major financial rewards for his insurance company from said association.
His religion, if any, remains an enigma. I suspect it is profit.

As I watched you presenting your evidence over the course of several posts last night (including the first SUMMARY) I'm very glad that I refrained from commenting. Your second conclusion, quoted above, is the same one that I reached when I spent some time researching Mr. Miller's background. I certainly do appreciate the effort you've put into this. There remains the first request in my post (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7353#p111582) for a source for the information that Miller at some point subsequent to his speech admitted using false figures and apologized for it.
I hope you don't think I'm trying to give you a hard time,
PaulKing. Though I have mellowed with the years, I still harbor a particular disgust for the Catholic church, and found Miller's speech repugnant. When I reach for a mallet to flatten the assertions of the next Catholic apologist who comes along merrily waving a copy of the speech (I think it's reasonable to assume that such foolish people exist), I want to be sure that the handle of that mallet is firmly attached to the head. Thanks again.
Dear H L Mencken,
I cannot find Sam admitting he lied, just the journalist admitting "he may have misquoted" him. Sam Miller is involved with a few Jewish charities but his principal activity (in the role of board member and Chairman) is with those of the Catholic faith.
It seems clear he traded his defense of the Church in return for lucrative contracts for his rather shady insurance company.
I will continue to dig and see what else I can find.
What is most disturbing is the Catholic media continue to circulate the original interview with the totally bogus statistics while being fully aware they are a total fabrication.
Warmest regards,
Paul King
