None! go for a high quality classy tee that will last for years and will work with everything you pair/layer it with.
brands I recommend for high quality tees that last and look good are Sunspel, Folk, Universal Works, Norse Projects, APC and my personal favorite brand S.N.S Herning.
Then again I spend stupid amounts of money on clothes and not everyone is as anal about clothes as I am so just ignore me.

Nope there more about high-end classic clothing with contemporary fits so most are just plain but done to the highest of qualities.
But check out the Japanese brand Beams (they had a feature on kotaku a while back) and Uniqlo, every season they create a range of tees that takes computer games, manga, comic books, ect in pretty interesting ways. but honestly I don't know much about that area of fashion.

Did silkscreen in highschool days and think it wouldn't be a bad skill to learn - have friends in a band who might appreciate it.
But I'd have to stick to one-color images for starters...

Even better I keep meaning to get back into screen-printing myself but work seems to dominate most of my time. You can do some amazing stuff with a single screen playing about with mixing specialist inks, over printing, and just being crazy creative with the restrictions. A really easy method I use to use without the need to faff about with exposing screens is to cut patterns into paper, place it on the screen and pull away, you don't get perfectly defined shapes using this method but the unpredictability and hand crafted feel of it makes it all the better.

You can make a silk screen out of a remnant of silk and an old picture frame...very low cost.
You can also make a one or two time use template using mylar and an xacto blade; using a re-positionable spray glue to temporarily stick it to the t-shirt. But these take longer to make than a silk screen. Cost is about the same as buying a silk screen already framed (unless you can find a place that sells single sheets).
I say make a silk screen and if you really only want to use it once wash it out with the proper solution and reuse the frame. Or just paint directly onto the shirt (but you won't have crisp lines)

Totally agree with you there, especially when its hot. Does have its uses though and is why its a good cheep alternative.
