Title: SE cupp and her book

This is freaking ridiculous. Her book itself is one thing but her supposed religious views are an insult to us all. She claims to be an atheist who "really aspires to be a person of faith some day". WTF?

I go back and fourth on SE Cupp. On the one hand, she seems to go out of her way to denigrate atheists and praise theists, and the things she says and does are unlike anyone in the entire so-called new atheism movement. On the other hand, people accuse her of not being an atheist, the atheist version of apostasy.

SE Cupp is probably an atheist. The fact that her atheism doesn't look like mine or yours, and the fact that she's damaging the atheist equality movement, are beside the point on the question or whether or not she's an atheist. Until she comes forward and admits it was all a scam, we really don't have a choice but to take her at her word.

All that having been said, if I were Bill Maher, I'd not invite her back on to the show because she does damage the atheist movement Bill Maher has done so much to help.

I'm pulling for her.  I hope she manages to accept Jesus as her personal savior real soon!

  :D

On another note, her reasoning skills are awful and she refuses to own up to it when shes been caught in a lie or proven wrong. Itrs almost like argueing with a "true believer"  :D

You don't have to kill anyone, just say that you're aspiring to be an atheist someday and that you think the liberal media is unfairly attacking atheists.

Nice. Thats actually pretty accurate about atheists being unfairy attacked. Check out this link. The guy in it cant just seem to put a rational arguement together against Dawkins. In one sentence Reilly demands evidence against the existence of god while refusing to prove the existence of god. In the next he says our founding fathers were all theists. Then he says that hitler was an atheist. Seriously? He called his empire the 3rd reich which comes directly from the bible. Later oreilly says "Humility is a christian virue". I've heard nothing all week more offensive than than that sentence.

For all I know she could be an atheist, maybe she wants to believe in Christianity for some reason (could be a number of reasons such as perceived happiness of theists, their ignorant bliss, the tighter communities they have, their representation etc.) but just is unable to believe in it all.

Just because she holds an odd view for an outspoken atheist, doesn't mean that she can't be one.

I'm an asexual who really aspires to have sex with everyone one day.

(Okay, not really... but it's the same idea.)

I can't think of a day that's gone by that I didn't think that life would be easier or more fulfilling if I was sexual, however at the end of the day I am the way that I am. I've come to terms with my lack of attraction, and she probably needs to do the same about her lack of faith. I don't really see it working any other way.

If you don't honestly believe something then trying to force it is deluded at best, and psychologically damaging at worst.

This woman's employer is Glen Beck, I think that says enough in itself.

I hadn't read this thread until now because I hadn't heard of her.  I watched the linked you tube video...she's an idiot.  I don't think anyone outside the far right wing will give her much thought.

I've seen her on Fox News many of times and I think it's all an act. I think she found out that there is a nice market for an atheist who's target audience is right wing Christians. She may actually be an atheist, but she tends to say whatever she thinks will get her more attention and readers. That's simply my opinion of what I've seen from her.

I still find her very attractive though.  :o

So I just watched the video linked, and it only supports my original claim. I think this is all a tactic to make money. I think she realized the religious right would love to attach themselves with an atheist who supports their "discrimination." It lends false credibility to their views. Personally, I'm an atheist who will defend religious groups when it's justified, but as time progresses, she seems to be going further into the pro-religious camp, while maintaining she is an atheist.

In no way am I trying to hijack this thread, but I'm curious on more views on this.
