Title: Happy New Year - 2011
Post by: AnimatedDirt on December 30, 2010, 11:22:09 PM
To all HAF

Best wishes for the new year.  May it be more prosperous and joyful than 2010.
May you find answers which you do seek for and may your knowledge base grow such that
you may influence for good, even if only in your own personal circle of influence.

Thanks HAF.  I really do enjoy you all.  :)

To those that might be offended by a Christian blessing, stop here.

To those that may not offended,

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace" this day and forever more.

I appreciate the blessing, but I'm afraid it may be a bit worthless. Nevertheless, happy new years.

I either need to find a pause button or a magical unpack everything button because I was hoping to be completely moved in before the first of the year.

Can we push new years by a week?

No, you're already running 17 hours late.

I don't get New Years. There's 364 other days every year where everyone could really care less that the calendar has advanced a day. Why the one? Because the Earth revolved around the Sun one more time? Well, on July 15th for example, the Earth completes a revolution around the Sun from the previous July 15th. In fact, every day of the year the Sun completes a revolution around the sun from that day the previous year? Not sure why this one is more special than the rest?

Maybe I'm just an all-around holiday Scrooge. I just don't get them. I'd rather celebrate events that have a positive slant in my life, and the lives of those I care for; not random days of the year that other people have deemed more important than the rest and hang the holiday tag* on.

*And usually that tag ends up being pretty pricey.

Oh well, Merry New Years to all of ya anyway.

ihateyoumike, I've found, as arbitrary as it may be, that having a set start for a new year helps with my goal setting and it make me feel good to think I'm starting a new leg of my life with as clean of a slate as possible.  Last year I was finally able to quit smoking on new years after several failed attempts.  This year I am going to focus seriously on weight loss and general health (yet still need to figure out a realistic and definable goal).

Pudding, here I still have 27 hours to go.  ...where are you getting 17 hours ago from?...Chinese new year?

Well I live in the one true time zone, New Zealanders are unfortunately 2 hours premature, whilst I think you are sadly 17 hours behind the time.  :)
Here the school year ends in December and the long summer holiday starts, this adds something to the calendar ticking over.

So I'll be spending NYE with a rather loud chicken while dining on cheese, jellies, jams, and pickles and the like, courtesy of my hard work this summer in the kitchen.  I just finished another batch of fermented pickles too,  :drool   Heck I might even stay up late this year and watch it all end.... then again I might not as usual.  Our usual NYE dinner of fondue will have to wait.  Hubby's (DK) planning beerinated hot wings, hoping to get them hot enough so they don't disappear on him if he has leftovers.  He's using habanero sauce, don't think my brother or step-father will touch that with a ten foot pole.  He's also planning on teaching my mom how to pickle eggs the easy way.

I might start cracking on all the limes I have in the fridge and make some more jelly too......

A productive and safe New Year to everyone!

Hmmm..... once you have one silkie they tend to assimilate you and steal your soul, then make you get more of their fluffy kin.
Black skin, flesh and bones though, might freak you out a bit maybe?

Here's the stew candidate, though there was a phone call last night staying his sentencing for another couple of days, she might want him for her big girls who can handle a randy little rooster:

Καλή χρονιά!

Eh, spent a little time in Greece in 2010.

Yeah baby!  Terra has once again officially completed a successful orbit of Sol, and commenced another.  Best wishes to all. :P )

My date for the evening.... or should I say dates? :
Neo, the chicken in infirmary, how she looked before the carnage:

The dogs have their routine and are in bed, same for the 3 stooges who are normally tearing up the place.  Hoping no fireworks can be heard tonight, I'm not in the mood to deal with canine seizures.

Why don't we celebrate New Year's Day on the Winter Solstice? Seems more logical to me. What's so important about January 1st? And if it really is that important, why don't we just shift calendar back a few days so that the winter solstice is on Jan 1st, instead of Dec 21/22?

Regardless, ya'll have a Happy New Year!
