Title: God gave me my hair
Post by: Gawen on December 18, 2010, 04:12:30 AM
I had the morning off of work a couple days ago and before I went to work, I stopped at a local restaurant to get something to eat. Some of you know I ride a motorcycle with a sidecar and I just parked in front of the front door. I had hardly gotten off the rig when three people came out, all around the age of 55-60 years old. Two females, one male. My rig is always a source of fascination for some and it surely drew these three in.

It was obvious that one woman and the man were a couple. They surveyed the rig, left a few compliments in my direction and then left. But, the other woman stuck around. It was clear she wanted a ride and I tried to make it clear that I didn't have the time as I was on my way to work and stopped for something to eat. Well, as we're talking, I'm taking off cold weather gear and stowing it in the sidecar. Another woman comes out of the restaurant and walks to her car. She has the most silver hair I've ever seen. I make a mention to the woman I'm talking to and she goes on about how this silver haired woman makes scenes of herself during our city's summer functions, flaunting her hair and all.

The flirt that I am, I decide to say to the woman I'm talking to..."I like your hair better." She turns around and says..."God gave me my hair." No smile, just as serious as she could be. I reply to her that God could very well have given the silver haired lady her hair as well.
Scoff scoff.
Talk about deflating....

Then she changes tack, right out of the blue, and goes on about "in the first war people weren't allowed to have bibles"...like I'm frakkin' interested. But the comment was so...wrong...I had to ask...what war is this? "The first war" says she. "You know, Hitler didn't allow the people to have bibles."

Good grief. Mind you, this exchange lasted perhaps 3 minutes? I excused myself rather abruptly. She looked confused. I went into the restaurant and contemplated how people can swallow such swill and then went to work.

You know, it utterly dismays...bindboggles me...yet I'm fascinated by it at the same time. Mans penchant for self-denial knows no bounds.

Oh....I just thought I'd share that with you all....is all.

Cool story bro.

But seriously, that woman sounds like a nutjob.

In fact, it was my understanding that there existed an agreement between Hitler and the Catholic church. You know, during the "first war."

I can't say that I'm surprised to discover how many religious people try to link Hitler's misdeeds with atheism.

I'm just looking at dgmort19's avatar, old Vlad Lennon.

The Good Lord Giveth and the Good Lord Taketh Away.

I'm sorry about that, but I'll probably do it again.

It was the Reichskonkordat signed in 1933 that guaranteed the rights of the RCC in Germany. Early on, the Nazi's tried to do away with the religions in that time and get the populace to convert to some sort of Nazi ideoreligion. It didn't work and they gave up. At no time did Hitler do away with Bibles.

Hello everyone, the newest (crazy) chap to the forums reporting in. o/

And, as my name indicates, I'm very intrested in history, more specifically war history. As a result, I feel nothing but pity for these poor individuals who can't even tell the most basic historical events apart from one another (The First War!? If I had been there, I most likely would have ended up holding a short lecture about 1st and 2nd WW, and hope that this poor lady would have understood at least some of it...). Plus, in Nazi Germany a newly wed couple was just as likely to be given a Bible as well as a copy of "Mein Kampf", FYI.  :shake:

*sigh* I sometimes wonder would really kill some people to think instead of just believing everything that they are told...

Hey there,
There's been some discussion on another thread about Hitler's religious beliefs. Your knowledge should come in handy.

I would be stunned.  You'd expect someone of her generation not to get something like that mixed-up.  Maybe she was suffering dementia?

I was standing in the kitchen of the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam a few years ago. There were a few other people there two appeared to be a couple, Jewish American I would guess from the accent. He appeared very well read on the subject of the museum and was telling the lady all about what had happened. At one point she said "you know I never knew the Germans got this far!" He rolled his eyes at her ignorance.

Probably not. Just a huge case of ignorance and a willingness to believe in her minister.

It is located in the thread SPLIT: From The terrifying afterlife under the Religion heading.  I think it begins on the first page.  Type 'Hitler' in the search box.  :)

Ignorance is unfortunately more common than knowledge. One slightly comical side effect is playing Trivial Pursuit with the majority of Americans. I can forgive their lack of knowledge of international sport, I know bugger all about American 'soft ball', you know the game that make Cricket look exciting  lol   He want and taught English there and found his wife. Apparently a teacher was considered a considerable 'catch' and fraternisation between the staff and pupils was expected. However Mark was advised that taking the fraternisation beyond the verbal was fine as long as you married the pupil in question, we are talking 16/17 yo here. Failure to legitimise the relationship would result in the teacher being dismissed, prosecuted (for effective 'breach of contract') and then deported. Mark spent 4 years in Cameroon and came back to the USA with a  wife and two kids. He confessed he had originally wanted an Asian wife as he didn't really like American women (I simply relate what he told me) and wanted a wife 'That would at least listen to what I want.'. Apparently all went well for the first few months until Mark's sisters explained 'hen pecking' to his wife who took to the lessons with a vengeance  lol

Thanks.

I checked the thread, but I wonder if I have anything to add in there, other that the whole thing is just ridicilous. Sure, the Catholic Charch had it issues (and backroom deals) with Hitler, but that doesn't automatically make him an atheist.  lol

Try going to some country in Europe, and start asking questions about things like The Battle of Bull Run or Gettysburg, about Guadalcanal, who was the 16th/17th/18th/etc. President of US or what State was the last to join the US and what year it was. I'd bet 9/10 you'd get blank stares and "I don't know"s as answers. That's because that has nothing to do with their country and it was never spoken in depth about in school.

But that's only when its about such random subjects without going to specifics. The rest of the time the only possible answer is that these people live by the saying : Ignorance is Bliss. :hmm:  :raised:

I have nothing to add to the Hitler stuff. McQ and most definitely Sophus took care of that.
