Title: Consequentialism (Do the ends justify the means)
Post by: jduster on October 31, 2010, 04:31:42 AM
Not always, in my opinion.  There are some situations where one cannot be sure of the outcome and can be successful by chance even.

If someone takes all of their money (including their savings) to the casino and comes back with more money than they came with, was that still a good decision?

Do you mean something along the lines of doing the right thing for the wrong reason? I find that people who end up doing the right thing for the wrong reasons usually tend to do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons at least just as often.  :)

That depends on the ends and the means. If the means are breaking an egg and the ends a delicious eggs Benedict, I'm totally fine with it.

Also, in celebration of Halloween and my temporary avatar, BRRAAAAIIINNNSSSS...  :drool
