QuoteFew people know it, and he does everything to hide it, but it's true - Homer J Simpson is Catholic," the Osservatore Romano newspaper said in an article headlined "Homer and Bart are Catholics
I wonder how long until they make him a saint.

This was actually true...for one episode.
Its kind of funny...whenever an atheist happens to commit a crime, they ALWAYS make sure to mention it in the report or article. Then when you hear about the latest bank robbery or child rape or arson...they never seem to mention what a devout Christian they are.
I needed to reset my password for my ISP and called the service folks and they asked me the security question. It was one of those you could write your own. I had written "Who is my favorite fictional character?" The answer, a la Homer Simpson, was 'God'. There was a heavy pause from the service guy. I could tell he was trying to think if he should risk his job by proselytizing. I guess he thought better of it, but he ended the conversation with God bless you.
Somehow I think the Simpson's writers are laughing hysterically...

So Homer was Catholic one week, and not the next.
Inconsistent texts don't seem to bother christians.
Isn't Peter from Family Guy a Christian too? Don't these people know what satire is?
I heard Ratty likes doughnuts, too.

I forgot all about that episode.

It's one of those funny looking guys with goat legs, likely to be in league with Satan.
QuoteThe Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism (a cross between Presbyterianism and Lutheranism) is the fictional Protestant Christian religion that Rev. Lovejoy preaches at the First Church of Springfield. The church is the town's main place of worship, which most Springfielders attend, though it is not the only church in Springfield (AME, Catholic and Episcopal churches also exist). The unusually specific name is a parody of Protestant reformed churches branching off into other denominations and movements.

I was going to say that I thought it was obvious that the Simpsons attended a run of the mill protestant church...decided it was best to check and I was right. An obvious clue in is that they don't pray to mary or push communion or give service in latin...
I guess they're so desperate that they're proud to have even such an idiot as Homer in their "club"
(dont get me wrong, I like the Simpsons. But he IS an idiot)

When last did this happen?

I think about six months ago a person accused of arson had some book in their house that made the media think he was an atheist (disregarding that he also had religious books) so they promoted him as such.
Homer Simpson is a perfect representative of religious people.
Yeah Homer converted to Catholicism for like 2/3rds of one episode, when Bart was going to Catholic school because he was expelled from public school and none of the other private schools would take him.
If I recall correctly, the main point of conversion was pancakes--delicious church-sponsored pancake dinners.
The whole episode seemed to me like it was making fun of christian sectarianism. "Noooo, we're going to protestant heaven, where it's all fun and happy. Homer's going to boring catholic heaven."
The Vatican changes its mind (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/23/doh-homer-not-so-catholic_n_772627.html):
Quote"I wouldn't say they're Catholic, I would say they're people of faith," the Rev. Francesco Occhetta told the AFP news agency. "I would say that the Simpsons are open on the question of God."
They're obviously treating this important issue with all the gravitas it deserves. It's good to see that the Catholic hierarchy is not being led astray from this vital concern by such trivialities as the Church's complicity in the Rwandan genocide, or the ongoing dissembling on the pedophilia scandal.
Does this mean Vatican's official newspaper is fallible?
I was trying to become more like homer, I nearly had the strangle hold perfected.
Now I'm confused and the children are getting harder to catch.
