I'm dirty. And there isn't one damn thing I can do about it. There's nasty stuff in my mouth, between my teeth, there are millions of creepy little microscopic life forms crawling all over me, and in back there, between my buttocks? Forget about it.

You have to admit, after having thought about it way too much, that there's something fairly disgusting about living in these  bags of flesh.

Not only are these bags of flesh filthy, they've also evolved in such a way that sooner or later your back, joints, hell pretty much wherever, including the smaller bags of flesh inside you which are called called organs, are going to start giving you problems.

I wonder if there's one split second, or maybe longer, right before we die when we feel our whole human body, our bag of flesh, the muscles and bones, the whole structure, finally relax completely. It makes me think that there might, just might, be something very pleasurable about dying.

Of course I could be wrong.

I really do hope.. Fingers crossed! Down here in Florida, if it's not cold, it's raining.. Which keeps my bones aching year round.. I wouldn't mind complete relaxation.

Going someway way down the road to drowning is pleasantly relaxing, but when you get a breath the struggle resumes.

Ha, I'm fine.  Time seems to heal most wounds.  I think of him less and less each year.  Happened about 11 years ago now.

I don't really think the human body is 'filthy' as a rule.  Yes there's also sorts of stuff living and growing on us and we get covered in dirt/grime/dust, but so what?  Just because we aren't squeaky clean doesn't gross me out.

My friends point of view was that from the moment we are born we start rotting away.  That our brief existence in this huge universe is utterly meaningless, and he didn't want to wait 60 years to die when its just going to be the same result anyway.

The important thing he missed was that the journey to that same result is the fun part.

The journey is the fun part.  In the big picture, what I do may not mean much.  However, on a smaller scale it does mean something to those around me.  

The human body is what it is.  We are covered with dead skin, bacteria, and viruses.  We are inhabited by bacteria and virus - some beneficial, some not so beneficial.  I don't let that bother me.  I just enjoy learning more about the complexity of it and how it manages to function despite being a biological machine built without blueprints.

To hell with the "big picture".  I've got what I've got, 70 or 80 years, maybe less; I'm gonna enjoy what I have and live in the moment.  

What big picture is there at all?  What does a mote of dust see?  A molecule?  An atom?

We are here.  We're part of the Universe, much as a cell is part of a body.  Do your individual liver cells report in on their status and ask for expiation from processing too much alcohol?  No.  They live and die in anonymity much as we do.

I've always thought that there is much wisdom in the thought, "be where you are."

The human body - I often wonder why religionists keep putting it out there as some example of impeccable design.  Seriously, where's my warrantee? If this sucker were an automobile, it would have been recalled a dozen times already.

I'm not grossed out by the fact that the human body is teeming with tiny life-forms and microscopic crud.  I'm just disappointed in the failure rate of the body's parts and pieces.  

Not counting damage done to my body by rough handling, it's still got a lot of defective parts, systems, and pieces.  

I'm only 40, roughly at the half-way mark to death under optimum conditions and I already have:
A defective immune system.  
An inoperable brain tumor the size of a bouncy ball.
A reconstructed knee joint due to ligaments that randomly snapped while I was doing nothing hazardous whatsoever.

I don't hold any accident or assault related damages or conditions related to them against my body but it would have been nice if it were a little sturdier.
