Title: LHC finds 'interesting effects'
Post by: Tank on September 23, 2010, 08:40:00 AM
LHC finds 'interesting effects' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11391434)

QuoteScientists at the Large Hadron Collider say they are getting some fascinating early results as they get set to probe new areas of physics.

The giant machine on the Franco-Swiss border is studying the fundamental nature of matter by smashing together proton particles at near light-speed.

Its CMS detector is reported to have seen "new and interesting effects"...

God is teasing us

*crosses fingers for mass produced anti-matter*

It looks like physics as we know it could be turned on it's head.

... if they find that, we'll never know...

Why not? Are you saying mass produced anti-matter is impossible for the human race to obtain? Why?

Uh, no... Just saying that if they stumble on a way to mass produce anti-matter, (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs2.hubimg.com%2Fu%2F1749813_50.jpg&hash=0fec8303156fa152f44ee7afa372f2b31ce31ddc)(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs2.hubimg.com%2Fu%2F1749813_50.jpg&hash=0fec8303156fa152f44ee7afa372f2b31ce31ddc)(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs2.hubimg.com%2Fu%2F1749813_50.jpg&hash=0fec8303156fa152f44ee7afa372f2b31ce31ddc)

All kidding aside, in addition to finding a way to produce ant-matter, containment may prove to be a larger issue in the long run.

Unless we find some force-fields and dilithium crystals...

lmao, good point. well they have produced insanely minute amounts of it so they had to contain it somehow or I could be wrong and it simply was gone the instant it was created. I'm sure we'll think of something, you can't keep a good human down. XD

Cern has some good Q&A info on their site:

Seems a bit cost-prohibitive at present.

Still would be cool to have, though.

Yeah, sure feels like God is teasing us.

There are several projects going on at the LHC. But two of them will be very interesting to watch: 1) the Higgs boson, a cornerstone of the Standard Model; 2) any particle predicted by Supersymmetry Theory.
