I was Googling a topic much different from this, but came across this thread (http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthread.php?p=570071) on a Baptist forum. Look at what they're saying:
QuoteWhat you people are not understanding is that it's not up to us. We don't condone rape, we don't send our daughters out into the wilderness dressed as sluts to be raped. In fact the odds of a True Christianâ,,¢ girl getting raped is very low. Why?
1. Because she dresses and acts modestly
2. Because she does not put herself in situations where rape is bound to occur.
If however, she takes off (as teenagers are bound to do) and decides to whoop it up at a drunken frat party and gets herself raped, then we have to follow Deuteronomy 22. Do you think this is easy on the man? No, he has to take care of her for the rest of his life. He is not allowed to divorce her.
And perhaps, if our daughters realize that if they have to marry their rapist, it will keep them alert enough not to get raped. According to one secular rape "counsellor" I read, around 80% of rapes could be avoided if the woman just used her God given brain and didn't put herself in a bad situation in the first place.
How is this any different from the subjugation of women the muslims do? "It's not my fault if I rape you 'cause you dress like a slut." I suppose if you're having difficulty settling down and finding that perfect someone just go out an rape a Baptist girl. Goodness me, there are A LOT of Baptists Church's around my area. In your experience, do most Baptists think this way? Please don't say yes!
Quote from: "The Bible"22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
At least that's what I assume he is referring to, not "22:10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together." or "22:11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together."
I have always wanted the bullshit explanation they give for ignoring some rules and keeping others, while their motives are clear to all and sundry in possesion of a brain, the justification they give must be a piece of creative writing par excellence.
Quote22:11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts
What? Wearing a wetsuit is a sin? Damnit.
I was raped when I was a teenager and though noone in my church knew about it I had to reconcile it with christian ideals of purity and I felt tainted for awhile because of ideas like this. They have no idea the kinds of challenges rape victims have to overcome(including feelings wor worthlessness and guilt) When I see or hear shit like this I think very violent thoughts I just want to beat the shit out of these people. :brick: :upset:
All Baptists? No. But a goodly portion of them, many members of my family amongst them.
They never stop to think of stories about 75yo women getting raped and such. If they did, they'd understand that rape is much more about the rapist expressing his frustrating feeling of powerlessness by exerting power over another, than it is about sex.
This is why so many women do not report their rapes.

In my case that or spandex would be a sin

If I ever wanted to have a swimming pool to myself all I'd have to wear is a pair of speedos!
Can't even pretend to be surprised. Either you believe in the scripture or you don't. If you believe you are bound adhere to this kind of asinine thinking. All real Baptist are this sexist. Yes. All of them. This may seem a silly thing to say because we all probably know some people who claim to be Baptist who would shudder at statements that suggest a rape victim "had it coming". They however are not true Baptist in the sense that they use the scripture as a moral guide. They have there own personal senses of ethics that tell them to reject such ideas.
Fundamentalists are the only true believers, everybody else at church just likes the singing, clapping, and wishing.

It is not that most Baptist say this, most people do. It is almost criminal in of itself to say that "she made me do it." Those who support this need to experience the same thing and they themselves then need see if they can agree that how they dressed whether in sweatpants or miniskirts makes this heinous criminal act justifiable.
