My name is Billy Bob and I am a firm, Bible believing Baptist and a True Christian Soldier for God. I am here to learn why atheism appeals to people aside from the obvious reasons. I believe most people turn to atheism as a way to justify sin and ease their fear of Hell. Of course most of the atheists I have met vehemently deny this allegation.
I wonder why atheists seem so alike. Every atheist I have met has been a follower of Charles Darwin. They also tend to be liberals who voted for Obama, and think women should have the right to kill their unborn babies. Why is this?

Oh, of course. Sorry. I'm thirty. I have three sons with my wife Ethel. I built my home with my barehands and support my family as the sole bread winner. I am a lumberjack. I enjoy playing the banjo and drinking Old Milwaukee.
Sorry, it wasn't my intention to offend anybody with my previous post. I was just forging ahead. I hope that we can have open and mutually informative communication from here on in.

Poe's Law states:
“ Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing. â€
So you are asking me if I am pretending to be a fundamentalist? The answer is "no". I am as Baptist as they come. I'm not sure why you would suspect me of trying to trick you that I am a Christian. Why would someone do that?
Because the internet is full of jerks who have nothing better to do.

For parody. For fun. For self gratification. Because you enjoy creating some kind of conflict. There are many reasons, and I don't care about any of them. The reason it looks like a parody is because of your user name and the stated incorrect ideas of what atheism is matches the stereo type of a southern baptist too well. Either way, the post was offending enough to not require a civil response, but I also refrained from being equally offensive just in case it was a parody.

Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"I believe most people turn to atheism as a way to justify sin and ease their fear of Hell. Of course most of the atheists I have met vehemently deny this allegation.
What causes you to believe this about atheists you have met? Since we have now "met", log me in as one who will vehemently deny this allegation as well. The way and the reasons you describe are
not the reasons I became an atheist. I also have no fear of Hell, nor conversely a desire for Heaven.
Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"I wonder why atheists seem so alike. Every atheist I have met has been a follower of Charles Darwin. They also tend to be liberals who voted for Obama, and think women should have the right to kill their unborn babies. Why is this?
Atheists are alike only in that they are all human beings and have no belief in god.
I am not a follower of Darwin, though I believe his theory to be accurate. Again, we have met.
I am also not liberal, nor did I vote for Obama. I am wishy washy on abortion, rather that people should take responsibility for their actions, and if that means having an abortion because she isn't ready for said responsibility (young; made a bad judgement; rape), then abortion may be the
responsible decision. If having the baby is the right decision, so be it. I don't condone abortion as birth control, that is what birth control is for.
Anyway, welcome! And enjoy your Old Milwaukee and banjo.

Quote from: "hismikeness"Welcome BBJ.
Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"I am here to learn why atheism appeals to people aside from the obvious reasons.
What are, in your mind, those obvious reasons?
I list them below. They are "as a way to justify sin and ease their fear of Hell." I'm sure there are others, I just can't think of any right now. There aren't any good reasons.
Quote from: "hismikeness"Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"I believe most people turn to atheism as a way to justify sin and ease their fear of Hell. Of course most of the atheists I have met vehemently deny this allegation.
What causes you to believe this about atheists you have met? Since we have now "met", log me in as one who will vehemently deny this allegation as well. The way and the reasons you describe are not the reasons I became an atheist. I also have no fear of Hell, nor conversely a desire for Heaven.
It is clear to me that you have no desire for Heaven, at least no sufficient desire. Otherwise you would not choose to be an atheist. I would be interested to learn what you claim your reasons for denying God are. I am sure however that you must lead a life rife with sin and blasphemy, otherwise you would not have the psychological need for a belief in atheism.
Quote from: "hismikeness"Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"I wonder why atheists seem so alike. Every atheist I have met has been a follower of Charles Darwin. They also tend to be liberals who voted for Obama, and think women should have the right to kill their unborn babies. Why is this?

I do not understand what you mean by "I am not a follower of Darwin, though I believe his theory to be accurate." Do you believe you have monkey ancestors? If so, do you afford them the same respect as your human ancestors, or do you regard them as monkeys as well?
You are not liberal. But you do not say you are conservative. Why aren't you more forthcoming about your political views? You are wishy-washy about sacrificing unborn children. That sounds like you lean to the liberal side.
Please explain your reasons for joining atheism.
Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"Although I am a southerner and I am a Baptist, I am not a Southern Baptist, but an Independent Baptist. I do not wish to get into an argument over this, I will remove myself from any discussion now where the other person makes baseless assertions about be. But welcome to the forums anyway.
QuoteI would be interested to learn what you claim your reasons for denying God are.
Well, I could list them systematically, numerically or in chapters and verses, but it would take too long and I have sin to commit.
The main one though, is that he's pretend.
I mean, seriously, a guy in the sky watching over all of us with a promise to meet his son in Heaven, unless he comes back first and destroys the Earth and all the non-believers will not be taken? Silly.
QuoteYou are not liberal. But you do not say you are conservative. Why aren't you more forthcoming about your political views? You are wishy-washy about sacrificing unborn children. That sounds like you lean to the liberal side.
Ahhh, I see.
So your reasoning aptitude is binary. On or off, right? Black or white? Gay or straight?

[gasp] Mine isn't I guess. Polarization simply is not a skill of mine. So right, I'm not liberal, and I'm not conservative. I'm not totally for, nor absolutely against abortion. And because I am not as far to one side as you on an issue, does it have to mean I "lean" the other way, towards the opposing view? That seems mildly separatist and off putting. Most things, I can see both sides, and some other sides that are in there, and place myself somewhere on the actual
curve of the bell curve.
QuotePlease explain your reasons for joining atheism.
See above. It's just silly to me.
Having read through Billy's posts I've decided that he is only here to either troll or preach; both of which are against HAF rules. I really don't care if he is doing this on purpose or if he's really just a super fundamentalist.
Billy, if I see any more of your posts that are preaching (ie claims without proof) or are baiting members then you're simply going to get banned; I see no need to jump through the hoops of offering warnings to someone who prides themselves on not using reason.
Quote from: "Davin"Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"Although I am a southerner and I am a Baptist, I am not a Southern Baptist, but an Independent Baptist. Billy Bob, if you find yourself ending up with a warning about your posts, it will be because of posts like this where you begin preaching to forum members like
Davin and making baseless assertions. You are advised to read this forum's rules and behave accordingly.
Davin and others have taken time to be respectful and communicate with you as adults. Don't make assumptions and treat them as if they were ignorant.
EDIT: I posted my response just after Whitney and did not see her warning until now. But I'm leaving mine here as well.
Quote from: "Billy Bob Jenkins"Although I am a southerner and I am a Baptist, I am not a Southern Baptist, but an Independent Baptist. So by your own logic you're here on n Atheist forum because you are having a crisis of faith and doubt a higher power exists? Or would that be a bald and baseless assertion based on biased personal opinion and ignorance?
If you want to know about Atheists ask us questions without assumtions attached and listen to our responses rather then telling us what we believe and why. Once you start playing by the forum rules everyone else follows (including other Christians and Theists of all stipe) Then I'll answer your questions. You said you came here to learn well then LISTEN to what we are saying.
You seem to think and act like you know all about what Atheists believe (or don't) and why, if so then why did you
really come here?
BB
From what I have read so far would it be reasonable to say you don't trust people who don't believe what you believe?

I have never had a fear of hell to ease.

Bye, bye Billy
Someone on here has a great signature explaining exactly why God does not exist, or why he is not as good as people give him credit for. But I'll actually give a couple of examples, one from the book of Genesis, and one from my life.
Adam and Eve. We all know the story, lets talk about the implications.
God puts the tree in the garden and says that can't eat from it. Let's think about this. Lucifer comes and tempts Eve, shit goes down, bad for mankind...blah blah blah
So either---
'
1) God put the tree there in full knowledge of Lucifer's plans to tempt Eve, and so ruin his creation, and does nothing. (God knows of evil, and does nothing) He is not benevolent.
2) God put the tree in there in full knowledge of Lucifer's plans to tempt Eve, and is incapable of stopping Lucifer. (God knows of evil, and cannot do anything to stop it) He is not all-powerful.
3) God put the tree in there, left, and had no idea what was going on until he came back and found them hiding. (God knows nothing of evil or can't see everything) he is not Omniscient.
Here's the personal example. Someone is being hurt on a daily basis. This person is praying for any kind of help, struggling to end the pain through fighting, through whatever means that person can think off. Years go by, and nothing happens until the person that is hurting the other either decides to stop, or kills the person they are hurting.
All three of the previous examples apply here. You claim that we don't believe because we are living a life full of sin. You live a day in my life, with all my memories, all my problems, all my thoughts, and you tell me why I don't believe.

I do my share of the blaspheming, but definitely NOT most frequently nor excessive in any way.
My very existence is a sin to BB and his kind, so they may judge, but I'll never stop 'sinning'.

Near where I work a man will occasionally sit in a chair on a busy street corner. He holds a sign that refers to Judgement Day and May 21, 2011. If you

the date you will find many websites that claim May 21, 2011 will be the final judgement day and the end of the world.
These people should take a bet:
If you or anyone else that firmly believes that May 21, 2011 will be the "judgement day" and you are still walking, talking and breathing on this planet on May 22, 2011, then you will totally renounce the bible and your religion! No excuses!
But, of course those who are still living on May 22, 2011 will find an excuse as to why the bible was once again mis-read. For a book that is about 2,000 years old, you would think they know what it means by now.

Considering the bible has a story about god telling a guy to kill his kid just to see if he would do it, I think these people stand to feel even more self righteous if the world doesn't end. Like they were similarly tested and also passed. If someone honestly believes in god and convinces themselves that god is in control of everything then they'll happily waste their life as a fool, all the while laughing right back at the ridicule, convinced they know the REAL score. It's insane, but it's also very human. You want to get someone to dedicate their lives to something crazy? Convince them they're special if they do.
