Title: Howdy!
Post by: rlrose328 on May 04, 2007, 05:15:37 AM
Newbie from Oregon here... my name is Kerri, I'm a married mom of one child.  We are atheists, through and through.  It's very hard around here... Oregon is not the liberal mecca the rest of the country thinks it is.  There are more churches than people around here and it's quite depressing.

Anyway, just looking for like-minded people with whom to converse.   :)

hey, welcome to the forum.  I'm surprised to hear that Oregon isn't that liberal, yet the only place up that way I've been is Portland and that was only for a few days.

Hey, Kerri. Welcome! It's a funny thing how we all feel that we're in parts of the country that despise non-believers. Even when it's a place that's supposedly liberal in it's thinking. Just goes to show you how little people think of atheists, no matter how otherwise liberal minded they are.

Hi Kerri! Welcome! I know what you mean about more churches than people- I'm not exactly in a liberal place myself.

Holy shit there are a lot of churches up here, I agree it is kinda depressing. I moved to K-Falls (sweet abbreviation haha) for OIT and I guess living up here makes people need it lol. Kinda of a bummer...

Hello Kerri.  I'm in Illinois, but, I think I've got 50 catholic churches within 10 miles of my residence, and our village sign used to say "village of faith".  (creeps).  Luckily, since they're catholic, they're mostly laid back.  But, I don't really go introduce myself to all the neighbors like "Hi, I'm Steve, I'm an atheist".  Which would be a really weird thing to do, anyway, right?

Hey Kerri. New here as well. I was pleasantly surprised how informative and understanding people are here on the forum. I'm definitely not in Jesus-land here in WI, but it's still somewhat hard to find like-minded people to talk to. But I think I've found the place to do so digitally at least.

Thanks for all the welcomes, guys... it's refreshing to find so many like minds in one place that aren't tearing each other a new one... 'course, I haven't checked out the other topics yet. LOL!

Our little town is a wonderful little burg and placed 18 on the top 100 places to live (by Money Mag)... just wish it weren't so religious.

Off to read other forums!

Welcome to the forum, Kerri. Looks like you've made yourself right at home. Glad to know you're not a shy wallflower.

It's ironic that so many of us here live in areas heavy with fundamentalist christians. I live in Lancaster County, PA. It's as fundamental as it comes. However they do have both political parties here: conservative republican and ultra-conservative republican, so it's very flexible in that regard.

Welcome, Kerri.

I'm positively swimming in Mormons down here in Mesa, AZ.
