Why do some believe that legalizing gay marriage would lead to marriage to animals and relatives? After all, gay marriage would take place between two consenting adults, and a dog, cat, or horse would never be able to give its consent. Also, there are laws on the books against marrying relatives, thanks to concerns about inbreeding. Unlike incest, at least gay marriage wouldn't lead to birth defects!
People don't like gay people (for whatever reason), making gay marriage legal, to them seems like an endorsement of things they dislike, they therefore oppose these things. Objections don't have to be rational, as long as they agree with you, people said the same thing about inter race marriages back in the day. *
*I imagine anyway, maybe you should ask people who actually object, you wont find many people on this site who fall into that category.

You probably should be asking your fellow Christians since they are the ones promoting the crazy idea that 1) Straight marriage is still reputable institution 2) That gay marriage is wrong 3) That gay marriage would create a slippery slope.
When people have an irrational objection to something, they require an equally irrational argument to justify it.
