Perfect! I had to join a forum called "Happy Atheist". Tailor made for me.
My name is William Hopper, author of the best-selling "Heathen's Guide to World Religions" series. I spend my time writing and debating the cause of atheism. This often leaves me going head-to-head with imams and rabbis, so an atheist forum seems a welcome "home turf" for me.
I write about the history of religions mainly ("the greed, murder, and sheer stupidity that contributed to creating modern dogma" as the PR people say.)
Above all, I have fun. You see, once you figure out that this is your life and there's no angels waiting for you afterward, you have to start living to enjoy life. I can go on and on about the benefits of a god-free existence (and often do) but to me the key part of it all is a keen awareness that the time you spend here should be full of fun, laughter, and learning.
I'm going to wander the forum and check out to see who's talking about what, and start randomly dropping into the conversations and getting to know folks. Glad to find you!
Wm. Hopper

Welcome to the forum....do you do speaking engagements in the states?
I do... though admittedly the publishers are wary of sending me south of the Mason-Dixon line. (I don't tend to be real shy about religion facts, and this tends to go ever badly with literalists)
Addendum to that: I really do feel safer walking into a mosque to debate than into a Southern Baptist church.
How would you feel about the texas freethought convention? (ie a safe place in the south)
A pleasure to have you on the forum, William. Welcome, welcome! :)
Btw, I would really appreciate your input on this thread: http://www.happyatheistforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4678&p=61970#p61970. What I had posted was just based off of a fuzzy memory from Art History classes long ago and recent History Channel episodes.
Welcome to you, William, and please try to make it a point to contribute as often as you can. I think it's great that you've joined us.
Hi William! Welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the forum, William. Thanks for that introduction. I hope you find lots of interesting topics here and enjoy yourself.
Not a bad idea. Definitely my kind of thing. Can you PM me the details and I'll run t by the powers-that-be (publisher and agent?

I'm glad you joined, your input will be very interesting.
Welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the forum, William.
I was the same with spelling until I learned how to break words down into smaller words. I could never spell chihuahua (the rat-like dog) until someone told me to remember CHI WHO-A WHO-A.
As for my grammar... she's a wacky old chick, but there's nothing wrong with her.

Inside info for you... if you're going to pick up a copy, wait 3 or 4 days. The price is about to go down on the American release to match the price on the Italian release. (It's being translated into a bunch of languages. They released the first translation in Italy basically because they figured the pope was not going to liek it. As it turns out, he doesn't.

Welcome to the forum. I'll be glad to read the posts of a professional writer. I wrote something myself. It'll be a great honor if you make a comment on it.

Thanks. You mean lower than $16.66 or lower than $19.99?

Just went from 19.99 to 16.66. At least on heathensguide.com. The publishers still have the 19.99, but that will go down to 16.66 as tomorrow (April Fools Day) is the launch in Italy.
I don't want to sound like a kiss ass but your book came in the mail today and I'm already in love with it. I really enjoy your writing style.
If you guys haven't bought it yet you should. You're missing out!

Plus then we could talk about it. Hey.... couldn't we use a Happy Atheist BookClub? Oprah wouldn't have anything on us!
The publishers sent a copy to the Oprah people. It came back unopened. Apparently Bill Mahar liked it though, so all is good.
Thanks for the up!
