Title: YouTube + Christianity = GodTube
Post by: MrE2Me on March 20, 2007, 05:11:24 AM
It was bound to happen (http://www.godtube.com/).  I went there to copy the url, and saw more than enough on the front page alone to scare me off.  A damn shame some of these people are computer-savvy...

P.S.  Someone out there really should start an atheist version - NoGodTube?

Hahaha!  I just read this thread (http://richarddawkins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10436) in the Richard Dawkins forum, and apparently some guy posing as a brainwashed Christian on GodTube has been uploading satire so convincing that the videos are among the most popular on the site.  Even the CEO of the site has fallen for it.  Sad, frightening...yet funny at the same time.  BTW, check out some of the videos linked to in that thread.

ya whats funny is they have christian versions of myspace too. that one video (http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=77442771720a370c3c72) about how to debate an atheist is hilarious.

Holy freakin' hell, I haven't laughed like that for a while.  This was hilarious, man.  Here's a few quick links to my favorites:

Skeptics Ask Circular Questions (http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=e9edb98dd85606f2c119)

Prayer is a Supplement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZEocOGeOcw)

Yup, I know that guy, I've uploaded some of his satire to my iPod in case it happens to be necessary. :P

Oh I've encountered Godtube before. I actually prefer it to Youtube on the grounds that religious evangelists are far more interesting than video blogs and transsexuals weeping and screaming in defence of Britney Spears.

This, for example, is thoroughly entertaining:

I thought for a second they were describing the perfect dildo.

"There are three grooves on the close side for a perfect fit; made with a non slip surface;  tab placed at the top so the contents don't squirt on your face; sits gracefully in your hand, point at the top for ease of entry, just the right shape for the human mouth; curved to make the whole process so much easier."

Ha ha. Yeah, I think you're right. I think I've seen a few pornos that involved bananas. :D

I've seen the video about the banana before, I think it is great! :) Hey, if god made the banana so perfect for us humans, then I guess the devil made the coconut...ever seen Cast Away?

Hahaha, oh cheers for sharing that. You've corrupted my mind, previously coruscating in its purity.

That's a hilarious video. That's about the strength of his other "arguments" as well. On the plus side I think it gave me a boner.

Yeah I've seen them  :)  They're all similarly absurd, I agree. Can't say I've found any good "material" yet, though.

Shrimp too. They are merely the temptations of SaTaN.

With the amount of open atheism on the net, maybe a NoGodTube would work.  Plus, if you start it, you might even get on Fox news - oh joy!
Title:
Post by: Mister Joy on November 08, 2007, 04:19:51 PM
I think Youtube is nogodtube. Pro-Christian propoganda on there generally receives a wave of onslaught from non-believers, there are far more anti-God videos and the rest of it has nothing to do with God whatsoever; it's just fun.

Just a random thought: doesn't it strike you as ironic that any website built entirely to cater for the non-religious is going to be about nothing but religion? It makes sense and it doesn't at the same time...
Title:

Yeah - good point, Mister Joy.  I guess we should just stick with YouTube.  Damn, there goes that Fox news interview....

Ahh Fox news... there should be a Planet Fox News in Florida, with rides and stuff, right next to 'The Holy Land Experience'. It could be themed around an alternative universe where everything they dish out is actually true.

I love that satire guy.  I've only seen one of his videos, though.  I didn't click the link; is he the one in the ski mask?

The banana argument might make sense if bananas were the only fruit in existence.  God may have gotten the banana right, but he fucked up the orange.

Yes - the guy in the ski mask rocks.  His is a brilliantly sarcastic mind, and he's got the proper demeanor to pull it off flawlessly.

I was listening to a story on NPR the other day. Some person from GodTube said that the purpose is (paraphrasing) "inspiration, and honing arguments to use against non-xians."

As for NoGodTube, I believe you hit the nail on the head. There are quite a few atheist videos on YouTube.

If you'll indulge me, you have to check these out:

Thunderf00t's videos (http://youtube.com/user/Thunderf00t). I love "Why do people laugh at creationists" parts 1 -11.

imrational's videos (http://youtube.com/user/imrational). He does some great work. I highly recommend "Why do Atheists care about religion?". He was (is?) a regular on WWGHA.

patcondell's videos (http://youtube.com/user/patcondell). Mr. Condell is absolutely hilarious. Some of his video titles were made to inflame - "Was Jesus gay?", "Hello angry Christians", "God bless Atheism", "The myth of Islamophobia". He monologues, no pretty pictures or soundtracks, but easily some of the best stuff on YouTube. He uses typical British humor to tongue lash.

If you check out their pages, look at their favorites. There are quite a few gems in them.

MikeyV - I was already familiar with imrational, but I had not come across Thunderf00t yet.  I watched his first vid I came across, Why do people laugh at creationists part 11, and recognized the adversary as VenomFangX - the guy who presented the candy bar argument that the universe cannot be infinitely old.

This Thunderf00t guy is awesome - I loved this part 11!

I sincerely thank you - you have provided me with one or two entertaining hours watching and savoring this guy's vids.  Cheers, my man!

MikeyV: haven't looked at all of them yet, but "Why do People Laugh at Creationists?" was brill. I'll have to remember some of the points thunderf00t made there; should prove handy for the next creation vs. evolution debate I find myself trapped in. :D

Ta muchly.

The godtube links work fine for me...is there a reason it might be blocked where you are (yet, if blocking were the case I doubt you could get on this forum).
