Title: Question for Christians about God...
Post by: kenh on December 13, 2009, 07:34:48 PM
QuoteGenesis 1:27
"And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
So he looks like an early Homo Sapien, Homo Erectus, Neanderthal or...?

More importantly, why would God need ears, a nose, hair, feet, teeth, and the like, as he flows through the cosmos and is ever-present?  Why would he have the physical attributes of a creature that is confined to a planet with the terrain, atmosphere and gravity identical to Earth?

Please enlighten me.

Or why would we grow hair in the womb before we are born then shed it before birth?

Good questions, but I doubt anyone will attempt to answer them. (Maria, that was funny!)  And what about reproductive organs?  Apparently he doesn't need them to procreate.

When the bible states something too absurd to explain, theists will often claim it's just a metaphor.  That would be hard to do in this case since it is so explicitly stated.

Some scientists believe that Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals may have mated at one time and produced hybrids.

I've never heard that before.  Where did you come across such information?

Here is one source:
QuoteNeanderthals and modern humans not only coexisted for thousands of years long ago, as anthropologists have established, but now their little secret is out: they also cohabited.

At least that is the interpretation being made by paleontologists who have examined the 24,500-year-old skeleton of a young boy discovered recently in a shallow grave in Portugal. Bred in the boy's bones seemed to be a genetic heritage part Neanderthal, part early modern Homo sapiens. He was a hybrid, they concluded, and the first strong physical evidence of interbreeding between the groups in Europe.

I also heard it mentioned on the Science Channel recently.

kenh, first post so please no flames (lol) anyway throughout scripture God is describe in many different ways, but as for God being like man  having ears and a nose and hair and maybe skin color, I dont think that would be accurate. As for being created in Gods image that definition(image) could mean a mental representation; idea; conception. Great question also

I must wonder what this post is really asking.  Christians have no more idea of what God or Gods are let alone what the reality of God or Gods is.  The Christian bible has been proven beyond doubt lies.  It is not divinely inspired or is it the infallible truth of a infallible God.  To ask Christians about God is like asking a sighted man to answer what it is like to be blind from birth.

Christians have no clue as to what God or Gods are let alone what God or Gods might think or want or desire.  They would have no clue.

I think it's intended to point out the issues with saying humans are made in god's image.

Actually if I am not mistaken God appeared to Moses butt naked, and he appeared as a man. :bananacolor:

Welcome to the forum twmac1, and thanks for attempting to answer my question.  I do think the bible verse quoted is too specific though to be taken as anything other than a physical description. Other verses may have different descriptions of God, but then the bible is full of contradictions like that.

thanks, i know there are statements in Gods word that seem contradictive (really there is),but given the different sides of opinions by men they will never be understood by man.

So why did he bother to hand them down to us?  :hmm:

To Whitney

Once again I apologize for the confusion, like I said I skimmed the first page looking for responses and when I found none I moved on.  I will see to it that this does not happen again.  The bible does give a clear reference to the physical form of God in one of Moses’ dealings with him.  God told Moses to bow his head or close his eyes or some such nonsense, and that God would run naked in front of Moses but Moses could not look until after God passed him running.  And Moses got to see Gods bare ass as God was running away.  Could be God did not want Moses to feel inadequate upon seeing Gods manhood, though the Virgin Mary seemed not to mind it.

Virgin Mary didn't feel it ... maybe God was jealous of Moses 0.o

Why does God have an appendix? (or, for that matter, any other vestigial organs), which would suggest he evolved from lesser forms of a god.

Good point.
I wonder if god shaves, or at least trims his beard.  What about circumcision?   :hmm:

We know he had his boy done.  As to shaving, if he did he would be correcting an imperfection in himself - else why shave?  That's why the standard model shows him hairy.
