Title: Check out new OS

Watch the video on this site.  Its very interesting and if this comes out in the near future Windows and MAC will have a run for their money.   I'm sure after using it for a little bit you would get used to using all the fingers to perform actions.  To me the Mouse has always been ... constricting.  I have no doubt there will be a ton of compatibility issues for games at first but the multi-tasking potential is astounding for work environments.

I think Apple patented multi touch and I don't see them letting go of it.

It's like the pen tablet only it's a touch surface.

It's an interesting concept but I'd rather have the screen be the touch surface...it would make it more like a real notebook; it could be sat in your lap (or put in a table, isn't microsoft working on something like that?) 'written on' etc and wouldn't involve having to find space on the desk for such a large keyboard/touchpad.  It's hard enough for me to keep a space clear for my pen tablet.  I know the video says the hands would get in the way....but how often are you moving the mouse around when working on a computer?  Even when working on graphic things my hand wouldn't get in the way....it would be just like hand drawing/drafting but with greater precision.  Gaming would be a different story, yes the hands would get in the way for that; but I think we'll be seeing something that works with hand gestures (like the Wii) become more popular for the PC games as the technology is refined  (like the computer interface on Minority Report).

Also, I like having the windows all over they place; I organize them in my own way.  The way they want to set it up would require that I scoll through 20 windows to find the one I would normally get to just by clicking on a tab a the bottom of the screen.

I know there are tablet PC's which you can write on with a special kind of Pen.  (i'm pretty sure they are called tablet).

For me quite a bit.

The more accessories with a computer the more likely you are to lose them especially if its portable.

Thats why they let you order it.  Its kind of like the Vista feature that lets you scroll though all active windows only you can change the order of it and can actively work.  It seems to me like this would be better.  I personally hate having more then 2 windows up just because I hate having to rearrange it.  Also I know there is a similar feature for Linux computers.

I know they do on the phones.  Would that transfer to computers as well?  If thats the case I doubt I will be able to afford one ... ever lol.  I'm pretty sure though that they will have to design a whole new OS to make that technology work.  I doubt it will be Plug n Play.

Right....the accessories would be your hands.

There is already primitive technology for sensing where and what your hands are doing.  Right now it relies on wearing a special glove...but the new technology Wii is working on seems to take the glove out of play.  So, that kind of technology just needs to be refined and then we get interfaces like the one used on Minority Report....no mouse, no gloves (I don't think gloves were used for this in the movie); just wave your hands across a screen; move grab toss things quickly.  I think this is what we really need to break into to get anything more user friendly.  With the way things are progressing so quickly, I expect to see this kind of technology on the market in 20 years or less.

I really think the touch pad would be just as restrictive as the mouse....the gestures they are talking about that involve multiple touch can already be done with pen tablet gestures (or touch pad gestures).

Ya, like that.  I guess it is further along than I thought...the last demo video I watched about it was a simulation; apparently this one really did involve interaction.

Yeah I think its live.  However some people commenting on Youtube think its scripted.  Who knows.  Once its fully released it will be like a Wii on steroids.  Can you imagine playing an RPG like that?

I just realized that it might take a little getting used to but this OS would be badass for certain types of games.  Such as Starcraft 2 and other real time strategy games.

All we need is ten very small dermal patches that attach to your fingertips or, so they're easier to stick and unstick, your fingernails. Voila. Tuck little sensors away in those patches and you've got the same thing without a glove. Do a few calibration exercises before use and you've got Minority Report in real life without any sort of interface controller.

Next we'll have the nanosite tat grids a la The Diamond Age. Can't wait for that one.
