Title: Bye now
Post by: Heretical Rants on September 22, 2009, 02:25:56 AM
I don't want to think about religion any more.  In fact, I think I'll crawl into a hole somewhere in the back of my mind and pretend that it doesn't even exist--and, let's face it, this forum is primarily a venue for laughing at religion.

Plus, I should get out before I say anything really stupid about myself.  I'm getting to that point now.

So....yeah...

Bye.

I'm curious why you feel that way.  I thought this forum was primarily to offer a community to people who lead separate lives but share similar thoughts.  It's a place to come together and encourage free thought... a place to remind people who reject religion that they are not alone in this world, and that there is no reason they need to lead an isolated existence simply because they don't believe in a deity.

If you're unhappy with the topics under discussion, then open some new ones... Encourage participation on other issues...  Don't take your ball and go home.

I don't know you, but I appreciate your frustration.  My hope, however, is that communities of critical and free thinkers will prosper, not become mere "venues for laughing at religion."  After all, laughing at religion is just a side benefit... It's icing...  The cake is so much more than that, though.

In the spirit of community and friendship, I'm going to say something stupid about myself:
I'm watching Catwoman starring Halle Barry on TV right now. Yes, that Catwoman.

Yeah, I guess you're right...  but I already have that.

I live in a secluded mountain town where there are are only enough churches to support maybe 10% of the population.  Nobody has even evangelized to me since I told the Jehovah's Witnesses that I didn't think my "Dark Master" would be pleased with what they were saying ;)

I hardly ever talk about religion here anymore. I've said all i wanted to say a while back. I do like forums, though. That's why i'm still here. There's other stuff to talk about. I'm just happy i managed to find a forum full of intelligent people where conversations don't descend into name-calling banality.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do HR. :)

I think I'll mirror Will's response and just say that sometimes I trip up stairs.

I was just thinking about a random fact about myself. I like to eat really healthy. But when I'm pregnant I crave fast food. The other day I got some and rolled the windows of my car down on the way home to hide the scent of my mcdonalds shame.

lol

So you don't like it when I call you a shithead? This on-again/off-again game is getting tiresome...poopyface.

Jokes aside I do enjoy talking to people who aren't inherently religious. That entails things that aren't religious based like our discussion on health care or politics or random subjects.

Like the random subject of... [flipping open dictionary to random page, closing eyes and pointing at random word]  couvade. What are your thoughts on couvade? I think it's silly.

I disagree on that. I think it's a lesson in empathy.
