I'm going to watch Jesus Camp tomorrow in my English class, because we are getting into the discussion of controversial subjects. I just wanted to know if anyone has seen it and if so, what did you think of it?
It made me sick. I was angry, and I realized that the United States has turned into a nation of crazy zombie worshipers. No amount of logic or reason can penetrate those people, and it's really rather sad.
I watched it, in my opinion ot is shot so far right that it makes anyone who watches it think "bs" about their beliefs. It will empower people already right though. You can watch it through google video if you desire. The people in that movie are what I call "evangalists". At one point an 11 yr old says he found god because his life was lost.... seriously, 11 yrs old and your life was lost? Go play baseball or build a fort!
I don't know what kind of school you go to but perhaps you should request to show Bill Mahr's "Religuous"
I did see it. It basically follows the pursuits of a lady whose goal in life is to brainwash kids. The kids are taught that they must make the USA a Christian nation. The kids are also emotionally manipulated into expressing "spiritual" experiences manifested by bodily movements.
It is very sad. It is nothing but the manipulation of children to spread one's own agenda.

I go to Virginia Tech... and no the school is not religious at all and my English teacher is a liberal gay man. The only reason we are watching it is to provoke discussion of something controversial in the class. I actually own Religulous and have it with me in my dorm, but I dunno if my English would actually let me show it because we don't have all the time in the world since it's college.
Those people are bat shit crazy. There. I said it.
I didn't make it more then half an hour into the movie before I was sooo pissed I shut it off. Even in the first few minutes when they were talking about Jesus Camp the lady told everyone to raise their hand if they believed in God or Jesus or something. A mother raised her infants hand, I was like

! Seriously though the main lady (who I will refer to from now on as the fat bitch) was trying to create the Christian Taliban. I'm a mellow person and I don't get pissed much, that movie pissed me off in record time. Seriously that fat bitch needs to die!

I think Curio has an animation with pieces from that movie... that animation says it all. I was so pissed off when I watched it. I watched it in 5 parts on YouTube when it was first put up there. I don't think it's there anymore. I felt sad, mad, aggravated, frustrated, and helpless. With the rate at which the believers are procreating (by and large) and this type of brainwashing going on, secular society doesn't stand a chance in the long run.
Take tissue... you will need it to dry the tears of frustration and anger that will inevitably fall. AND YES, ask if he can then show Religulous as a juxtaposition... then you'll have TRUE controversial discourse.

And again... :pop:
I actually didn't watch it yet because the video got delayed until Monday and Wednesday since we have to do other stuff first in the class.
Please let us know how it goes....
I don't have the ability, nor the time, but perhaps online there is a "greatest hits" version of Bill Mahr's or one of our friends in the forum could pull something together, if not there are a lot of other counter point videos online if you care to provide a counter point.
I would love to hear the responses you get and the conversations that happen in your class, especially, given what I can assume is, your teachers point of view.
When the kids speak in tongues its really creepy.
I just saw the first 40 minutes of it and I must say... it was fairly funny, but weird and a little disturbing at the same time. When the lady was blessing the electronic equipment at the church I was like "Wtf... Really?"

Something along the lines of "The devil likes to cause power outages when we try to get your word out."
It's really sad that children get indoctrinated in this way. I'd call it child abuse.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to post my feedback on the movie after finishing it on Friday. It was really depressing seeing how these kids are being indoctrinated and I wonder what they'll be like when they grow up. Becky Fischer (the lady the film is featured around) started to seem more and more like a cult leader as the movie progressed. I think the movie's psychological impact is fairly powerful in empowering the religious right and shocking everyone else. The old guy with the coarse sounding voice was just fucking creepy and it was so weird how he kept bobbing back and forth when he was praying...
You guys are wussies. I grew up in a Pentecostal church just as bad if not worse. I got uber lulz than sad. This is the "intellectual juggernaut" we have to deal with. Believe me it's for the best. The fundies will become the new serfs as intelligent people exploit them for political and economic endeavors. I for one welcome my new underlings.
I love how she acts as if the idea of (extreme) muslims arming their kids with weapons is somehow a model to behold. You can tell she almost wants to advocate christians doing the same but knows it would be too politically dangerous. These people are hilarious to me.
If anyone is curious they were not worshipping Bush, it was laying of hands. It's a faith healing hub-bub that every pentecostal church does.
Poor fools.
I've only watched the first third or so, but even then I've like everyone else found it to be disturbing. First there's the anti-science stance many parents take (we shouldn't be concerned about global warming). I haven't gotten to it, but the part about training to fight against Muslims sounds awful (talk about loving your "enemies").
Maybe we could surreptitiously declare a "crusade" and get them to travel to the middle east to get their brains blown out or something...
