Title: Online Gambling
Post by: skurry on September 02, 2009, 05:57:48 AM
I'm not much of a gambler, the last, and only time, I went to a casino I lost $20 in a penny slot and thought WTF?

Is it legal to gamble online in the USA?

I did my Google research and little came up, mostly spam or sights that had something to gain. If I wanted to play blackjack online, is it legal and if so, where?

I have used Pokerstars before, but that was a few years ago.  Things may have changed since then.  Back then you basically had a balance with Pokerstars that they would deposit in your paypal account when you so chose.  There may have been some minor taxes or something, but I can't recall for sure.  Pokerstars makes their money from "the rake," that is, when the pot gets big enough, they take a small amount off the top.

I'm pretty sure they had blackjack as well.  Hope that helps.

The laws changed a couple years ago that made it illegal for banks to do business with the poker sites (or something like that).  The way the law was written, according to my lawyer dad, allows individuals to continue playing poker online for money if they can find a site willing to do business with US citizens.  Try Absolute Poker.  But, as far as legal issues are concerned...you might want to just ask one of the poker sites to reference you to the applicable laws so you can read it yourself.
