I've been listening to the same ol' music this summer, and I'm in need for some new songs or artists. I started listening to Keanne again, and Coldplay. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Michael Buble and Norah Jones are always in my car stereo. I'm tired of the music today that are getting air-played, and over-played. It's just so annoying listening to the same songs again. 'I've got a feeling, woo-hoo, that tonights gonna be a good night!..." OMG i cant stand that song anymore. Every sporting event, every 15 minutes on the radio and every time a commercial is on, i hear that damn song. Black Eyed Peas needs to get out!!! Ok back on topic, any one have any suggestions? I'm open to any genre of music, so don't shell out on me.
Im kinda sleepy right now, as it is 12:55 am and I usually fall asleep listening to my ipod, so pardon my grammar and spelling! Blah! good night!
I recently became bored listening to these bands too much:
Nightwish
Lacuna Coil
Within Temptation
But I liked them for a while. You could try them? They're all rock with a lead woman singer.
I would try Blue October. They are a rock band from Texas. Very good stuff. You may have heard the radio songs "Hate Me", "Into the Ocean" and perhaps lately "Dirt Room" or "Say It". Hate Me was by far their biggest radio hit. But by no means is it their best song.
Hismikeness
I would suggest the late, great, Mr M Jackson. People seem to be forgetting about his music lately, you should listen to it and play it to others. It would make you stand out from the crowd.

Try
The Eels - Mr. E's Beautiful blues
Zita Swoon- Josie Something
The Shins- Australia
Zoot Woman- Grey Day
Finger Eleven - I'll keep your memory vague
Or if your in the mood for some rock and roll classics
Rod Stewart - Every picture tells a story
Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized
Grand Funk Railroad - Footstompin' music
Blues Image - Ride Captain ride
David Bowie - The man who sold the world
Finally this gem from Ryan Adams. It almost makes me rethink my stance on slide guitars.
I taught myself how to grow old
I recently discovered the soundtrack to "The Fountain". It's not new, but it's really quite something, if you're in to that kind of music. As for new stuff, the newest album I have is 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day, but that's been playing all summer.
have you visited pandora.com? you can type in the name of a band or song that you like and it will find others that are similar in style/tone/etc to it from other bands. i've discovered a lot of new artists that way.
what's in the top queue on my mp3 player at the moment:
the shins (always. love them.)
mika
band of horses
the decemberists
ben folds
Can never go wrong with an America or Eagles CD in your car. I don't care when you were born, either. And despite the patriotic images evoked, I don't think these guys even sing a nationalistic song.
Guano Apes -- You Can't Stop Me
Dashboard Confessional -- Vindicated
I like a far wider variety than what's listed here, but I have an image to keep up. Except to my close friends, who will no longer let me pick songs for riding anywhere.
Voltaire's music.
No, Not the writer.
Ah, music. My specialty.
First, listen to http://www.radioparadise.com and http://www.cd101.com. Two best places to find music online (both online radio stations; CD101 is a station out of Columbus, OH, but the internet broadcast is the same as the radio broadcast, just without commercials). If you're looking for classical music, check out Ohio State's classical station at http://www.wosu.org. Also, http://www.sky.fm's Solo Piano channel is amazing.
As for individual bands to listen to, here's what's on heavy rotation at my house right now, in absolutely no order:
Bernward Koch
Sufjan Stevens
Peter Bjorn and John
Racounters
Broken Social Scene
Silversun Pickups
Black Keys
Magic Numbers
The Doves
Cold War Kids
CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy)
Beirut
Guillemots
Andrew Bird
Final Fantasy (the solo artist from Canada, not the video game franchise music composed by Nobuo Uematsu)
Mooncake
God is an Astronaut
Mono
World's End Girlfriend
Kate Nash
Kings of Leon
Ray LaMontagne
Patrick Watson
Patrick Wolf
British Sea Power
Amy MacDonald
Cloud Cult
Nick Drake (you can never go wrong with Nick Drake. ever.)
Hevia
And, of course, Pink Floyd is always on heavy rotation here.
That should keep you busy for a while.
Here's a few I've run across I've found to be exceptional:
Edguy
Agalloch
Shadows Fall
Steel Panther (aka Metal Skool, Metal Shop & Danger Kitty)
Masterplan
Pagan's Mind
Millenium (a powermetal band - may be a bit difficult to find, not the one from Inida)
In Flames
...there's many others but I'll let ya have a shot at those.
Hmm. I still listen to MJ, and love him too. His music is timeless. I already have The Shins album. Dashboard Confessional has great music, but they're boring me.
Most of the suggestions are rock music, or classical. No one here listens to hip-hop? I'm expecting a few Run DMC fans!
I wish I was into hip-hop; I would set the world view in my profile to "turntablist". Apparently I am unable to think of a world view that is more awesome. Anybody?

(There are three. Love them all, but the second is my favorite.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBdMBk5Xh5w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBdMBk5Xh5w)
Ane Brun - Treehouse song. I just love her voice. Goes to the same category with Norah Jones.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNPN5Tgkmd8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNPN5Tgkmd8) Into hip-hop? Not my usual cup of tea, but I kind of like
Looptroop - Fort Europa. Yeah, and of course [spoiler:z5emmcvn]
Hurricane George (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXTVsvL1RvM)[/spoiler:z5emmcvn], but this is a bit offensive in the US. Or at least it used to be..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmrNsBawd-c (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmrNsBawd-c)
Ani Difranco is quite new acquaintance for me, but especially the song
Red Letter Year sounds good. Norah Jones again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS3QOtbW4m0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS3QOtbW4m0)
Gill Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, although this is more a poem than a song I guess. I like the newer version better, but it is not available in Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbVl6nCmQ9o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbVl6nCmQ9o)
Labi Siffre - I Got the. Innovative song, anyone notice the later, quite popular use of parts of this song?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCHXHVEFwIc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCHXHVEFwIc)
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride Something older, cool band, and the book, Steppenwolf, was worth the read.
These are few that I have listened lately.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ZtT4Th9Ys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34ZtT4Th9Ys) By the by, you mentioned Coldplay, I think it is kind of like
Sigur Rós, but more pop. Song is called
Viorar Vel Til Loftarasa, and I prefer to not know precisely what they are singing, so I do not like the subtitles on this video, but there was no version without them anymore.
Get some old Prince. Its not hip hop, but its damn good.
You mentioned Coldplay, so I think I am required to suggest the band Elbow to you. I don't listen to Coldplay but I LOVE Elbow and a lot of people compare them to Coldplay. Seriously, once you get past the fact that their name is Elbow, its some pretty awesome stuff.

You may not be into this, but Pink Floyd are great prog-rock, John Lennon, and Bad Religion are great "atheist punk". BR are very intelligent and have a big vocabulary.
You seem into soft music, get some Nirvana and ease into grunge/metal, you'll be glad you did. If not, Soul Coughing, Black Lab and The Famous can be pretty good.
Man, that Elbow band is amazing. Their shit rocks. I've been listening to Nirvana and Pink Floyd for a while but not lately. I'm tired or radio music so I think I'm just gonna go Bestbuy or something tomorrow to pick up some CD's. My girlfriend won't let me borrow her Jason Mraz CD so I think I'm gonna pick up a copy. I'm also gonna try to download some more Elbow songs. Thanks to all the replies, but I know you can do better!
Quote from: "NaturaLCalamity"Thanks to all the replies, but I know you can do better!
Here's an experiment. You said you listen to hip-hop. I wonder if you like drum & bass (http://bassdrive.com/v2/)?
Quote from: "PipeBox"Guano Apes -- You Can't Stop Me
Reason # 31 of Why I like HAF, someone reminds me of a band I should not have forgotten.
Thanks PipeBox.
And in response to the post, I have to say that I've gone to the past to fill musical voids. Aerosmith, the Who, ZZ top, Billy Joel, and Bob Marley are just a small part of the mosaic.
Also, there's Depeche Mode (who's concert in Dallas I unfortunately missed :headbang: , Our Lady Peace, Garbage, Finger Eleven (i remember them when they only got airplay on Much Music)
And for the not as mainstream, Herbert- Leave Me Now
Oh, and I forgot to mention Helmet or even The Melvins.
Having musical overload...must resist freak-out...ah, what the heck
Um...ever tried jazz?
Well, I doubt that much of my rock type music would be anything new to you, but I recently wrote a post on my blog about some of the ambient, chill out variety of music that I listen to. I'm pretty much of that will be new to you. It's 3 or 4 posts down from the top. http://rumtickle.blogspot.com/ Ask me any questions you might have.
Got it! I found these two very cool bands. They belong to a genre actually called Chill Out. One is called Air: a French band (songs in English) influenced by Pink Floyd. 2 (my favorite) Lemon Jelly. The name pretty much guarantees them to be a good band, but they do have very good music, relaxing.

I'm digging White Rabbits right now. Check out "Percussion Gun" by them. Really grew on me. I've been told their first album is better than the new one.
Good hip-hop: "You" by Atmosphere and "Low" by Flo Rida. I can listen to those over and over. They're not Run DMC, but toe-tapping, poppin' at my desk, none-the-less.

Both very good bands. Might also want to check out Zero 7, as they're sort of the English response to Air. I'm actually listening to them right now.

Lemon Jelly also did some very good radio sets (for the Breezeblock, I think). Same with the Avalanches, an Australian band that uses nothing but samples. Amazing stuff.
OK, you might not like this but at least it is a totally different type of music to the likes of Keane, coldplay, etc.. You never know, it may expand your musical horizons to something you never thought possible!
Elite Force
Plump DJ's
Krafty Kuts
Meat Katie
Rowland the Bastard
Hybrid
Soul of Man
DJ Icey
Evil Nine
Ali B
So, that list represents anything from breakbeat to really dirty hard house and anything in between. It's the kind of stuff i'm listening to right now, along with a bunch of US metal and rock and some classical music (my tastes change all the time).

I second Pandora.com. If you haven't checked this out yet, give it a try. Just 5 minutes and you'll be listening to your own customized radio station.

I've been listening to a band called Longwave. They have two albums that I know of, and both are very good. They remind me of a modern day Pink Floyd, if you can compare anyone to them.
Seriously they are good.

A few weeks ago I bought the CD "Touch Yello". It really blew my socks off. Touch Yello is a "recording" of the virtual concert of the Swiss electronica band Yello, best known for their singles "The Race" and "Oh, Yeah". The luxury edition of the CD contains a DVD of the virtual concert. That DVD is very worthwhile to watch, even if you don't like their kind of music, because the visual effects are simply stunning.

Conor Oberst. He's one of those musicians who just can't write a bad song and was a freakin' child prodigy in my opinion. His best songs are done with the band
Bright Eyes and
Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. His songs are pretty diverse and beautiful but he has a quivery singer voice that might not be everyone's cup of tea. Either way you'll like the deep and inspirational lyrics. Oberst's writing style has been compared to Bob Dylan, only, unlike Dylan, he writes some good religion bashing lyrics.
