In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover holy
days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.
The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring,"Case dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians haveChristmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."
The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."
The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."
The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.'
Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.
This seems like one of those parables like the physics professor and the chalk. Parables are basicly fairytales that are used to teach but are just fairytales and passing them off as truth is lying or if you want to get biblical bearing false witness. So posting fake stories as truth is sinning. Congradulations sinner.
What exactly is your worldview? Truthist is very vague while many posters here do use creative world views they are usually pretty obvious. Truthist is kind of subjective and not really discriptive.
dragon, are you a follower of Colbert or Jesus? I can't tell if you can't spell truthiness or if you can't spell true theist.
If you are the latter...I expect that you will be citing your source some time soon since that is part of our rules

edit: Just wanted to point out we've already covered this on the forum viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3029&start=0&hilit=april+fools (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3029&start=0&hilit=april+fools)
Ha ha... that was lame. I think I know who wrote it though:

I think I heard that joke at least thirty years ago so I expect it's been around for a while.
OMG U R ARROGANT!
I guess this is just more proof that religious people make up unbelievable stories to excuse their irrational beliefs. File this between Noah and Joshua.
Oh, now tell the one about the atheist professor being pwned by the Christian freshman! Or the one about the military man who was sent from God to teach the professor a lesson!

Fail.
Its really a funny story a great April fool day it made.No judge would say anything like that for fear of being disbarred. This Florida court case never occurred in real life, and the point of the story is to brand atheists as fools. Nevertheless, the idea of designating April 1st as an "Atheist Holy Day" seems to be growing in popularity among atheists themselves.

Yeah many do try to own it much like many take the red A as atheist symbol as it was orignaly meant as an insult.
Welcome to the forum always good to have new members especialy when it increases the diverity. You should take the time to make an introduction in the intro thread.
Actually, if you research the origins of April Fools day it is very appropriate for it to be an atheist holiday (holy day, no) if we look at it as as a celebration of the 'fools' drug their feet on shifting to the Georgian Calendar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day#Origins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_Fools%27_Day#Origins)
Not to mention that atheists declaring April 1 atheist day takes away the fun from fundamentalists who really think that court story is real....after all, they are just trying to spread their intolerance and it's not so much fun anymore if it doesn't make the atheists hit the ceiling.
Awwwww, instead of making up such cute widdle fantasy stories I would probably be more concerned about the fact that the month including the authentic highest holidays of your religion starts with the Day of the Fool, every single year.

But, as to the origins and truth of the story, perhaps this (http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/atheist.asp) will help.
Hismikeness
Come on, that must have been meant as a zinger and nothing more, you would have to be an absolute cretin to believe that. I doubt it was ever meant to convince anyone of anything, jus like racist jokes are not meant to convince people that ethnic minority A have characteristic B.
I thought it was pretty funny truth be told, I did not see it coming, much to my shame.
Edit, Oh yeah, I heard that it is really snopes who send out all these crazy sham emails, just so people will go to their site and check to see if it's true. I tried to check out whether it was real or not, but snopes said it was fake, so we're good.
