Title: Bravo TV Artist Audition
Post by: joeactor on July 01, 2009, 06:50:01 PM
Hey gang,

I know we've got some artists on the forum, so I thought you might be interested in this... (quote from Bravo's site):

QuoteMagical Elves (Peabody Award-winning Project Runway, Emmy Award-winning Top Chef) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Golden Globe- and Emmy Award-winner) and her production company, Pretty Matches, are teaming up for an hour-long creative competition series among aspiring contemporary artists who will create and compete to conquer the art world!

If you’re an emerging or mid-career artist with a unique, powerful voice that demands a bigger stage â€" well. . . Here. It. Is.

We want contemporary artists. Your medium could be one of many (or several of many) â€" painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, mixed-media â€" we want voices that believe in their art and want the world to know.

Thanks Joe! But whenever I hear the term "contemporary art" I just want to vomit. Ha ha... It makes me think of Ad Reinhardt. Here's his breath taking portfolio:

Hey!  After seeing that I suddenly realized... I'm AN ARTIST!!!

I saw one exhibit with two huge canvases - one painted white, one painted blue.
Wow.
The paint alone must have cost at least $30...

Home Depot, here I come,

I don't trust it. I mean, they put Sarah Jessica Parker on television, and she looks like a foot.

lol  Yeah and Herr Reinhardt made a fortune selling black and blue squares. He's only famous because he was "the first to do it". So if you invent your own lazy way to make "art" then you've found yourself some easy money.

One can never go wrong with a Peter Griffin quote. And that's one of my favorites.

I am surprised by the visceral reaction to "contemporary art." "Contemporary art covers a lot of ground and Ad Reinhardt, as much as he leaves many people bored or vomiting, is considered a "master" of the 20th century, not contemporary. I don't like him either. You have to stand in front of one of his paintings too long to realize that it is not all the same black.

What is your favorite kind of art?

I guess art is not about thinking but about attitude.

Unfortunately, image editing software is necessary to fully appreciate his work.

When you change the contrast, HAF is clearly written on the top center painting.

Inverse the colors so you can mess with the contrast even more...

And, Voila!

Love Bacon. (In more ways than one.)

Reminds me of Count Magnus in Vampire Hunter D.

I suppose you have to be a least moderately attractive, fashionably dressed and well-spoken for this - so I'm out.
