So.. I don't see a main introduction thread so I assume you have to make your own!
My name is Snuffles (not really) and I would technically classify myself as agnostic as I am open-minded to the idea of a "creator", yet I believe that (from my understanding) the majority of evidence does not support any religion that I know of. I like to think of myself of a humanist/atheist.
I am studying Psychology and I have always been baffled as to what goes on inside the mind of an evangelic/fundamentalist Christian, thus making it the perfect field for me to investigate. But.. I have had problems accessing Journals which aren't made by biased evangelical Christians (for example.. Journal of Psychology and Christianity - http://www.caps.net/jpc.html (http://www.caps.net/jpc.html)).. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!!
I live in Australia, which is thankfully not extremely, or perhaps just not openly religious. But we are so influenced by America that I'm afraid that one day our schools might start teaching "intelligent" design alongside evolution.. and as a future scientist I am terrified of this happening..
Anyway.. you might of noticed that I have a lot of opinions.. sorry if I bored the crap out of anyone, I am just so passionate about atheism and secularism!

Have you seen the Journal of Religion and Society http://moses.creighton.edu/JRS/ (http://moses.creighton.edu/JRS/) They were the ones who published the article that ended up creating the headlines "Society Worse Off with God on Their Side" I don't know if it is a good journal (or if it is peer reviewed); but they don't seem to shy away from publishing controversial information findings. Obviously it is going to be geared towards sociology since it is about religion and society, but it might be helpful.

Honestly, from my experience, in Australia there are not nearly as many Christians and even less Evangelicals than in America.. Here's some pretty decent stats for Australia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographi ... and_belief (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Australia#Religion_and_belief)
As for creationist pushing, as far as I know it doesn't go on here much at all, since the fundamentalist voice isn't as great here as in American..

Thanks for this.. I'll keep track of them.. I do like to keep track of the templeton foundation even though they are funding papers that only say nice things about christianity, it's still a laugh.
If anyone has any awesome ideas I could do for a thesis I would appreciate them! I'm thinking of doing something like.. are theists/deists happier than atheists? and if so, what type of happiness? I bet I could find something interesting...

Religion has only come into my classes in two forms, however...
EDIT: Three, if you count the ignorance of many of the students themselves.
