Post by: marlina on June 10, 2009, 12:47:22 PM
What does it mean when you have thyroid problems? I have to go get a Ultrasound and bloodwork done.. I have HPV what do you think they are going to do? Is it something with my thyroid?

Uh... you may want to ask, uhm, people with legitimate medical knowledge. Like... a doctor. We're atheists, yes, and that statistically makes us smarter than religious folk, but that certainly doesn't make us qualified to give you medical advice.

Now, if you were bleeding out of your ass, that's a different story.

Orifice bleeding is a strong indicator of being in an episode of "House M.D.".  :typehappy:

There are numerous side effects related to thyroid issues and your problems will depend on what is (or is not)wrong with your thyroid.  I only know this much because my mom has hypothyroidism and now takes medicine to regulate things.  I'm not aware of any connections between HPV and your tyroid...but, I'm not a doctor.

Anyway, that was my purposely very non-specific answer since I'm not licensed to practice medicine.

Why did you ask this on an atheist forum?  Why not just ask the person who said you need to have your thyroid checked (your doctor).

(I wonder if this was one of those spam bots meant to advertise some medicine but the programmer forgot the link?)

If you go on thyroid meds druggies will steal them regardless of the fact that they give you no more of a high than a tablet of corn starch...Yeah, people are dumb.

My mom has been on them for at least 10 years now and has had no theft issues.

My wife's been on them for five years. Same deal. No thefts.

I've got Hashimoto's thyroiditis and I've had some of my medication stolen by an ex in law.  I hope they had heart palpitations and explosive diarrhea.

Hypothyroid disease is not associated with human papilloma virus so far as I know - which is what HPV stands for as far as I know.  HPV is genital warts, some varieties of which may increase the rate of cervical cancer.

As far as thyroid goes they should be testing your blood for TSH, for thyroid levels, and for antibodies.  Then they'll determine whether you should go on medication or not.  If they decide you should go on thyroid replacement, they will likely slowly titrate your dosage up from a small dose to whatever proves effective.  They'll decide whether it's an effective dosage by further blood tests.

If caught early and medicated, hypothyroid disease will probably have little to no effect on your everyday life or lifespan - you'll likely just need to take a pill every morning.  If you are hypothyroid and they start you on medication - give it six weeks before expecting to feel different.  In my case (which was quite advanced) I felt like a new person on thyroid replacement therapy.

But ask your doctor these questions.  I know it's difficult, especially with specialists that shoo you out in five minutes.  Write a list of your questions and take them to your appointment.

XD this reminds me of a weird story.  I've been working at a hospital for this summer and i was covering for someone who was on vacation until midnight. I was working in the ER (emergency room) and was sitting at a desk with an intercom making sure people parking in the ER  lot were visiting someone in the ER or coming in. Other parking near the hospital  has to be paid for so we don't want people to take advantage of the free ER lot. Anyways a guy pulls up and i say " ER can i help you" and the guy responds "IM BLEEDING OUT OF MY ANUS LET ME IN THE F***KING GATE." I put it up immediatley and man he wasn't kidding and it was NOT pretty and that little quote reminded me of this.  Thanks XD.  :bananacolor:

1. Pick up phone.
2. Call clinic or local GP office.
3. Ask to speak to <insert name here>, M.D.
4. Ask the same questions you just did here.
5.  :headbang:
