I've recently taken to folding dollar bills into butterflies to give as tips in bars and restaurants and suchlike. I think of it as a sort of random and unnecessary act of kindness. It makes me feel good. The reception varies. Some servers clearly appreciate my effort. One even made me a stork out of a napkin once. Others politely accept but seem not to care.
I suspect my paper folding skills are poor. I actually need to tell people my bills are folded as butterflies. I had one server guess it was vampire teeth! I've searched for resources on

and for books on amazon and found some useful stuff. I wonder if anyone here knows about origami and could point my to some good resources?
Also, what do you think, is someone working in a bar or restaurant more likely to appreciate a dollar bill folded into a butterfly than a regular unfolded one?
There's another somewhat embarassing issue I've run into. I start folding a bill because I'm being served by a girl. A guy working behind the bar sees I'm doing it so no turning back. Then I end up having to pay him for whatever reason. I feel like a dumbass giving the guy a butterfly. I'd rather give him a regular bill and being a guy I'm pretty sure he would too (but you never know). I think what I really need is to have a more stereotypically masculine folded dollar bill stashed in my pocket that I can give him instead. Any ideas what it could be? And where do I learn how to fold it?

There are quite a few other dollar bill origami videos if you do a google or you tube search.
Wow you're awesome Whitney! I should have thought of youtube. Lol.
I've made these:

I've given out the pyramids, but the balancing eagle is too involved to leave as a tip.

Origami to Astonish and AmuseI also made his "Dollar Bill Cuboid"
I couldn't find an image of it, but it was very difficult and can be described as a chain of 6 cubes attached to each other at the edges.

It seems to do that with images that have symbols in their name such as the &.
