Hey everyone I'm new to the forum, and I've actually finally came out to my friends and family as a 'nonbeliever' very recently. It's been much harder than I had thought it would be. Since I'm constantly being questioned of what I believe or don't I have written a poem addressing it. Please let me know what you think.
Heathen
I resent all labels that are given
For disbelief in superstitions.
What shall we call those who see through Claus,
Or don't see futures in their palms?
With no evidence that we've been given,
I make no such baseless suppositions.
There is but one thing that I am certain,
Of what's behind life's opaque curtains.
I'll never know until it's through,
Nor will the pope, and nor will you.
Hi Bones - Welcome!
Very original. I like the poem.
Nice to meet you,
JoeActor
Thanks Joe. Nice meeting you too.
Love the poem! Welcome to HAF
Cheers, welcome, and
please keep writing poems.
Thanks everyone, I'm glad you dig the poem. I don't typically write poems because I'm more of a songwriter. I often touch on religious themes though. One in particular is directed at superstition in general. I of course consider religion as such.

Chance
Is there truth in destiny
Or can my will change everything
Maybe fate’s a hopeless dream
The lazy rely on
I have nothing I’m concerned
But that’s everything I’ve earned
If I stomp my two feet hard enough
Will I get my way
Will I take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move or only wait around
Complacent as I let escape
Another chance
Should I keep my fingers crossed
Quote a poem by Robert Frost
Or beg a body on a cross
To find it, find it
I close my eyes and make a wish
At least the losers took their risk
Inspiration’s for the amateur
Sleep through dawn today
Will I take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move or only wait around
Complacent as I let escape
Another chance
Without your slogans
Without your gods
I will make this happen
And this will be the day
I will take it now
I will rise or I’ll go straight down
Make a move, no I won’t wait around
Complacent as I let escape
Another chance
Out of the religious closet, then?
