hmmm... not sure I've got a themesong.
I'm all over the board when listening.
Everything except Country and Rap... ok, so I made an exception for Brad Paisley.
Still can't get into Rap or Hip-hop as much.
How about "Ding Dong Daddy" by Cherry Poppin' Daddies?

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads - 06 - Curse of Millhaven
Lyrics[spoiler:2i4lsavs]I live in a town called Millhaven
And it's small and it's mean and it's cold
But if you come around just as the sun goes down
You can watch the whole town turn to gold
It's around about then that I used to go a-roaming
Singing "La la la la La la la lie"
All God's children they all gotta die
My name is Loretta but I prefer Lottie
I'm closing in on my fifteenth year
And if you think you have seen a pair of eyes more green
Then you sure didn't see them around here
My hair is yellow and I'm always a-combing
La la la la La la la lie
Mama often told me we all got to die
You must have heard about The Curse Of Millhaven
How last Christmas Bill Blake's little boy didn't come home
They found him next week in One Mile Creek
His head bashed in and his pockets full of stones
Well, just imagine all the wailing and moaning
La la la la La la la lie
Even little Billy Blake's boy, he had to die
Then Professor O'Rye from Millhaven High
Found nailed to his door his prize-winning terrier
Then next day the old fool brought little Biko to school
And we all had to watch as he buried her
His eulogy to Biko had all the tears a-flowing
La la la la La la la lie
Even God's little creatures, they have to die
Our little town fell into a state of shock
A lot of people were saying things that made little sense
Then the next thing you know the head of Handyman Joe
Was found in the fountain of the Mayor's residence
Foul play can really get a small town going
La la la la La la la lie
Even God's children all have to die
Then, in a cruel twist of fate, old Mrs Colgate
Was stabbed but the job was not complete
The last thing she said before the cops pronounced her dead
Was, "My killer is Loretta and she lives across the street!"
Twenty cops burst through my door without even phoning
La la la la La la la lie
The young ones, the old ones, they all gotta die
Yes, it is I, Lottie. The Curse Of Millhaven
I've struck horror in the heart of this town
Like my eyes ain't green and my hair ain't yellow
It's more like the other way around
I gotta pretty little mouth underneath all the foaming
La la la la La la la lie
Sooner or later we all gotta die
Since I was no bigger than a weavil they've been saying I
was evil
That if bad was a boot that I'd fit it
That I'm a wicked young lady, but I've been trying hard lately
Oh, fuck it! I'm a monster! I admit it!
It makes me so mad my blood really starts a-going
La la la la La la la lie
Mama always told me that we all gotta die
Yeah, I drowned the Blakey kid, stabbed Mrs. Colgate, I admit
Did the handyman with his circular saw in his garden shed
But I never crucified little Biko, that was
two junior high school psychos
Stinky Bohoon and his friend with the pumpkin-sized head
I'll sing to the lot, now you got me going
La la la la La la la lie
All God's children have all gotta die
There were all the others, all our sisters and brothers
You assumed were accidents, best forgotten
Recall the children who broke through the ice on Lake Tahoo?
Everyone assumed the Warning signs had
followed them to the bottom
Well, they're underneath the house where I do quite a bit
of stowing
La la la la La la la lie
Even twenty little children, they had to die
And the fire of '91 that razed the Bella Vista slum
There was the biggest shit-fight this country's ever seen
Insurance companies ruined, land lords getting sued
All cause of wee girl with a can of gasoline
Those flames really roared when the wind started blowing
La la la la La la la lie
Rich man, poor man, all got to die
Well I confessed to all these crimes and they put me on
trial
I was laughing when they took me away
Off to the asylum in an old black Mariah
It ain't home, but you know, it's fucking better than jail
It ain't such bad old place to have a home in
La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they all gotta die
Now I got shrinks that will not rest with their endless
Rorschach tests
I keep telling them they're out to get me
They ask me if I feel remorse and I answer, "Why of course!
There is so much more I could have done if they'd let me!"
So it's Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy
Singing La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they all have to die
La la la la La la la lie
I'm happy as a lark and everything is fine
Singing La la la la La la la lie
Yeah, everything is groovy and everything is fine
Singing La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they gotta die[/spoiler:2i4lsavs]

Just can't get enough of lil' Lottie.
When I was younger, it was "Walkin' on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.... more recently, though, it's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. :banna:

I don't have a theme song, per se...but any Def Leppard song that comes on the radio gets turned up. I'm pretty much a classic rock listener.
Lately, this is my go-to pick-me-up song....

I think it might be Ironic by Alanis Morsette. That's what came to mind when I read the OP. But, I might change my mind later, there are a lot of songs I like or like the words to but I don't know the song name or singer.
I really like Imagine by John Lennon but not sure if I would call it a "theme" song. It's definitely at the top of my fav list.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

I didn't know the non-American meaning of the word "pissing" when I first heard the song. It made sense to me that the fella would be "pissing the night away" in the America way after drinking all that stuff. Heck, give me a cider drink and a lager drink and I'll piss the night away - or at least six or so times.
Damnit, now I want a Magner's.
This is one of the many songs that I have to play out loud.

Cockney Rebel was truly amazing and innovative at their time. I've got only their "The Human Menagerie" album of which I like "Fade Away", "Sebastian" and "Death Trip" the most. "Make me smile" also makes me
Quote from: "DIY 1138"Tom,
Is that a rock and roll clarinet I hear in the Soft Cell tune? I haven't heard that since Frank Zappa. Remember Montana?
I'm not sure that it is a rock and rock clarinet. The clarinet player is the Jazz musician Dave Tofani. Frank Zappa, I mainly know from his bestselling "Sheik Yerbouti" album. Somehow, I liked him more for his lyrics than for his music.
Absolutely and 100% it's "When Doves Cry" and it gets pumped and the windows get rolled down!

Although I disagree, I've heard doves and they sound nothing like that. It's still my jam though.
I dont think I have a "theme" song. But one of my all time favourites is watcher in the sky by Iron savior. The lyrics match so much of one of my comic characters...
I also cant stop headbanging at hail and kill from manowar.
To mother earth \

I have many songs that I love, I cant list them all

I've heard other versions of "Take Five" but if I can't listen to the original, the version by George Benson is also lovely.
Wow.
The question was a little more complex for me the more I thought about it. I've always been pleased that my taste and range was outside the norm. I don't listen to the radio or let MTV dictate who I am or what I should be. I've heard so many great songs, so many that I've forgotten either the lyrics or the artist.
Crazy.
So here goes, a little piece of music that I would consider my "theme song"... (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.com%2Ffs24%2Ff%2F2007%2F362%2F1%2F2%2F_stereo__rvmp_by_bad_blood.gif&hash=f12c3df8638d7e6365054f9b8bded346e934fda6)

[spoiler:4wie6aud]Now you all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs
There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask you for the name
Of the one
Who tells the story
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known
And you're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain
In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarfs and men
And elves
Come close your eyes
You can see them too[/spoiler:4wie6aud]
This song strikes a chord with me.

Quote from: "Blue October"i changed my color for you
i shed my coat with caution
i lack the beauty you display
see here there are the bruises
and some were self-inflicted
and some showed up along the way
so i nod my head
im ready for the world to see
the secret i kept here inside the man you thought I'd be
slip into coma calm
the coma where i calm myself down
here comes excuses why i let you down
stand by for another breakdown
sound off the alarm
is this the chameleon boy i swore i wouldn't become
chameleon boy
chameleon boy
so now we've come upon the hardest thing i've ever done
it's telling you that I'm a mess
what sort of mess i mean
is self-destructive gasoline
the kind that strips you of your best
and while i play instead the way that most would end up dead
you sleep alone at home and wish that i was in our bed
with this i'm telling you
my color changes back to blue
how do i ask you this
will you help me through
stand by for another breakdown
sound off the alarm
is this the chameleon boy i swore i wouldn't become
stand by for another breakdown
sound off the alarm
is this the chameleon boy i swore i wouldn't become
chameleon boy
chameleon boy
i try to think of all the people i look up to
or growing up who would i be
now the twisted part
where didd all my idols end up
they all passed away
passed away
stand by
its chameleon boy
stand by
its chameleon boy
Chameleon Boy
I'm chameleon boy...
chameleon boy...

QuoteCalled the art of growing up
There's an innocence we look for in the stars
To be taken back to younger days
When there was no giving up
On the people we held closest to our hearts
Yeah it is you that I remember in that glowing
It is you that took my first away from me
It is you I set my standards to... to every walk of life
I haven't met another you since you were with me.
(Chorus) A brief bout with a razorblade cut me
I freaked out, thinking people didn't love me
I watched closely as the you I knew forgot me
In letting go, I am so proud of what I've done
In a way, I failed religion
I spit the wine from mouth to cup
And I reached for something more than just your God
Uncle, you spared not your children
And while your praying hands are up
There's no forgiveness for you! You sick fuck!
It is you that I remember in their bedroom
It is you that took their first away from them
It is you they set their standards to
You wounded them for life
You were a preacher and suppose to be above men
Sing with me
(Chorus)A brief bout with a razorblade cut me
I freaked out, thinking people didn't love me
I watched closely as the you I knew forgot me
In letting go, I am so proud of what I've done
I saw "The Spirit" again today and I totally forgot about this song. This one would be in the Top 10 for my theme songs:

Hmmm
Split Enz. Nobody takes me seriously
QuoteNobody listens to a word that I say
And at work I'm just a foremans tool
Sitting in the corner with my coffee & tray
All the secretaries think I'm a fool
I don't wanna suffer these conditions no more
Haven't I the right to say
I don't wanna suffer these conditions no more
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Loves not a glimpse, it's a permanent rinse
And it keeps you on your toes all day
Every girl I met seemed to get apathetic
When I looked at her that special way
I can't get nobody else to take me for real
They like to keep me tucked away
Even if they listened to what I had to say
Nobody'd take me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
If war broke out I'd be the last one to know
If there was a fire they'd just leave me to burn
I got just as much to say as any man
But I never seem to get my turn
I don't wanna suffer these conditions no more
Haven't I the right to say
I don't wanna suffer these conditions no more
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
Nobody takes me seriously anyway
(Nobody takes me seriously)
Nobody.. no, no, no-nobody...

Their "True Colours" album is still one of my favorite albums from the eighties. Absolutely magnificent! I bought the laser etched LP in 1980 and I still can't get enough of it.

Quote from: "templeboy"awesome! What are your other enzy favourites?
First time I heard about Spliz Enz was (I think) in 1978, when they toured the UK and Europe. They'd brought out their Dizrythmia album, which was not so well received over here. But, they made a great impression as a life band and received a lot of attention, mainly due to the funny hairdos, make-up and costumes. At that time didn't really know what to make of it. I lost interest, until they brought out their "True Colours" album. I'm also quite familiar with Tim Finn's solo album "Escapade" (my brother owns a copy of it), but somehow it wasn't convincing enough for me to explore the rest of the Split Enz "universe" at that time. My favorite songs are therefore all from the "True Colours" Album: "I got you", "Shark attack", "I hope I never", "Nobody takes me seriously", "Poor boy"and "Missing person".

I'm reviving this thread because it has lots of cool music that I had forgotten about =). This isn't my theme song but it has been my favorite for a few months now. It's progressive / symphonic rock. It starts out a little heavy but actually isn't all that heavy overall. I like that they have a mini-orchestra in the studio with them. The singer has an amazing voice.

Locked in my skin
This habit costs a lot
Substance and abuse is fucking rough
This body's hard to haul around with nothing in my skin
It's twice as hard once I put something in
It's only entertainment
Till we get to the next gig
It's way too hard to live locked in my skin
Locked in my skin
I can't sit around and read a book
The pages always shaking way too much
Locked in my skin, it's a prison
From within
There ain't no escape except getting sick
Stop the entertainment 'til
We get to the next gig
It's way too hard to live
Locked in my skin
Locked in my skin

Wordplay - Jason Mraz
I've been all around the world

The sophomore slump is an uphill battle
And someone said that ain't my scene
'Cause they need a new song

Someone do the math

Gotta find another way to live the life of leisure
So I drop my top,
Mix and I mingle
Is everybody ready for the single and it goes...

Well let me introduce you to my style
I try to keep a jumble And the lyrics never mumble
When the music's makin' people tongue-tied
You want a new song
Like a new religion
Music for the television
I can't do the long division
Someone do the math
For the people write me off like I'm a one-hit wonder
Gotta find another way to keep from goin' under
Pull out the stops,
Got your attention
I guess it's time again for me to mention
The wordplay
Ha La La La La
L-listen closer to the verse I lay
Ha La La La La
It's all about the wordplay
Ha La La La love
The wonderful thing it does
Because, because
I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's
Yeah The Mr. A to Z
They say I'm all about the wordplay
Well I built a bridge across the stream of consciousness
That always seems to be a flowin'
But I don't know which way my brain is goin'
Oh the rhymin' and the timin'
Keeps the melodies inside me
And they're climbin'
'Till I'm running out of air
Are you prepared to take a dive into the deep end of my head
Are you listening to a single word I've said?
Ha La La La La
Listen closer to the words I say
Ha La La La La
I'm Stickin' with the wordplay
Ha La La La Love
The wonderful thing it does
Because, because
I am the wizard of ooh's and ah's and fa-la-la's
Yeah The Mr. A to Z
They say I'm all about the wordplay

I like the combination of death metal and opera style female lead singer. "The Bluish Shade" by Aesma Daeve.

Mine changes quote often, so I'll try to remember to edit this post as appropriate.
As of 1/11/2010 it is Floorfiller by the A*Teens:

Mainly because the girl i'm dating introduced it to me as if they're saying "GODZILLA!" instead of "Floorfiller" and I thought it was a crazy jap-teen-pop godzilla parody. [spoiler:2g2vk8i8]WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME[/spoiler:2g2vk8i8]

Now, that is what I call very eerie music.
This is Emma Shapplin's "Spente le Stelle", performed live. I love to listen to it over and over again, because it is so beautiful (and so is she).

Well this is fucking awesome. Thanks Tom62!

I've never really been a fan of gothic opera butt-rock. It just seems to be a contrast which musically, doesn't fit.
My opinion of course.
Bad Religion - Materialist (not feeling mellow)
David Bazan - Hard To Be (feeling mellow)
BTW - If you guys haven't heard Bazan yet I prophesy right now that he is going to spawn the new wave of apostasy alt rock. Srsly.
The best electronic album that I own is White Noise's "An Electrical Storm" (1968), the "holy grail" amongst lovers of cosmic electronic space-rock. The album starts with a lighter A-Side, followed by a much darker B-Side. Rumors have it that it was the first album that was forbidden by the Pope. Any way the album is a MUST have for anyone who loves psychedelic music. It is therefore best to be enjoyed somewhere quiet and dark and under the influence of illegal substances.
QuoteWelcome to the world of the frequency shifter, signal generator and azimuth coordinator. A world that existed before the dawn of the synthesizer, when a 'sample' was a length of recording tape delicately and skillfully spliced in place.

Damn it! Tom62 wins again! I really like the A-side. The B-side doesn't have enough structure (I guess I mean rhythm) for my likes. You leave me with little choice. Darkthrone puts me in some kind of trance whenever I listen. I could post the "video" but nobody would like it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLtwCQNPgWg).
Actually, fuck it.

I didn't know we had a competition going on

Girls kissing. Brilliant. Did this ever reach America? Haven't been paying attention to pop. I do hope they actually liked each other.

I remember tatu being popular in the states back in '02 or '03. AFAIK they put up the bi front to sell records in America. I could be wrong, but as long as they keep kissing, I don't wanna be right.
