So the Vatican suggested would-be priests should be tested for their sexual orientation and anyone who appears to be gay is removed from consideration of the church. They won't say how specifically one does a test for homosexuals but ... what exactly could the test even entail? A questionnaire? A naked man in the room?
Thoughts? Cares?
How many gay men are actually applying to be a priest in the catholic church anyway?

I wish I knew, it would have made my life a lot easier when I was single. If they have similar ideas of what warning signs for homosexuality are as they do at those straight camps, then I would doubt the accuracy of their tests.
Perhaps they pray to god, and she reveals it to them in encyclopedic-detail.
Of course women are excluded by default, so at least it is equal discrimination for the lot of us.

Nah, the truth is far more likely to be mere lip service. The Catholic church has a reputation for having gay priests. This is more than likely just an attempt to at least give the impression that they are trying to do something about it, and hopefully weaken the stereotype.
What do they expect though? I was under the impression that one of the catholic positions on homosexuality was that if you are gay, that means that god called you to be celibate. I know if I cared what the bible, or most Christian sects had to say, I think that celibacy would be my only option, so I would have probably considered becoming a Nun.
For this reason I don't think that it is unreasonable to assume that there is probably a higher percentage of homosexual Nuns and Priests than there are in the general population.
Saddens me really...

Well, I didn't mean to imply pedophilia. Of course the percentage of heterosexual pedophiles is the same as in the general population. Sexuality doesn't appear to hold relevance at all. Pedophilia is a paraphilia, not a sexual orientation.
For some reason I still have never been able to figure out, and has -- to be honest -- always pissed me off, was the fact that people always talk about pedophilia as if it only happens to boys, and only talk about the little boys that get molested, and seem to not give a shit about the far far greater numbers of little girls that are molested.
For some reason it seems to only be talked about as a horrible horrible crime if it happens to a male. Little girls only seem to even make the news if they're killed.

This is just stupid. It's not gay priests that become pedophiles. It's power-hungry pedophile priests who do. They need to "test" for that.

They should just remove the requirement of them being celebate. That was added (I think during the development of the seven deadly sins) so it could easily be removed.
And why are they saying they are going to ban gay men from becoming priests? Is that a big problem?
