Title: Email received at work...
Post by: BadPoison on March 26, 2009, 06:14:48 PM
Today one of the girls I work with received this email. She decided to forward it to my entire office. I find parts of it offensive, and disgusting. I'm thinking of forwarding it to my manager's supervisor, or even HR. What do you think?

QuoteDID YOU
 KNOW THESE FACTS?

 I SURE DIDNT TILL NOW*

Death is certain but the Bible speaks about untimely death!

Make a personal reflection about this.....

Very interesting, read until the end.....

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7):

'Be not deceived; God is not mocked:

 for whatsoever a man sow,

 that shall he also reap.

Here are some men and women

 who mocked God :

 John Lennon **(Singer):*

Some years before, during his interview with an American
 Magazine, he said:

'Christianity will end, it will disappear.

I do not have to argue about

 that. I am certain.

Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we
 are
 more famous than Him' (1966).

Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than
Jesus Christ, was shot six times.

 Tancredo Neves**(President of Brazil ):*

During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000
votes from his party, not even God would remove him from
 Presidency.

Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being
 made President, then he died.

Cazuza **(Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet):*

During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ),

while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into
the air and said:'God, that's for you.'

He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible
 manner.

The man who built the Titanic*

After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how
 safe the Titanic would be.

With an ironic tone he said:

'Not even God can sink it'

The result:I think you all know what happened to the
 Titanic

 Marilyn Monroe **(Actress)*

She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a
 show.

He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.

After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:

 'I don't need your Jesus'.
A week later, she was found dead in her apartment

 Bon Scott **(Singer)*

The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he
 sang:

'Don't stop me; I'm going down all the way,
 down the highway
 to hell'.

On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he
had been choked by his own vomit.

 Campinas**(IN 2005)*

In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to
 pick
 up a friend.....

The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried
about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the
daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the
 car:

'My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You.'

She responded: 'Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk,
 Cause
 Inside Here.....It's Already Full '

Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a
 fatal accident, everyone had died,

the car could not be recognized what type of car it had
 been,
but surprisingly, the trunk was intact.

The police said there was no way the trunk could have
remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a
crate of eggs, none was broken

Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist and entertainer)

said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever
 written.

In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her
 motor vehicle.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no
other name that was given so much authority as the name of
 Jesus.

Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he
 is
 still alive.

 'Jesus'*

 PS: If it was
a joke, you would have sent it to everyone.

So are you going to have courage to send this?.

I have done my part, Jesus said

'If you are embarrassed about me,
I will also be embarrassed about you before my father.'

You are my 8 in 8 seconds. I am not breaking this. No way!

I'M TOLD THIS WORKS!!!!! Bishop T.D. Jakes '8
 Second Prayer.'
Just repeat this prayer and see how God moves!!

'Lord, I love you and I need you, come into my heart,
 and
bless me, my family, my home, and my friends, in Jesus'
 name.
 Amen.'

Pass this message to 8 people {EXCEPT YOU AND ME}.You will
 receive a miracle tomorrow.

Ugh, I fucking hate office email forwards, moreso when they're that evangelical tripe.

Forward it to your HR person, but change the subject so it doesn't seem like you're doing it, too. ;)

I abhor that format.

Try this:
QuoteDID YOU KNOW THESE FACTS?

Death is certain, but when you send out chain emails, it's more likely to come sooner.....

Make a personal reflection about this..........Now another. Put the second reflection in Tupperware and save it for later!

Did you know that some Christians treat god like they were a Nigerian Scammer, sending out unsolicited emails to people they know? What do you think that says about their love of God?......

......

You know what John Lennon (apparently a singer of some kind) said? Imagine no religion. What is generally not known is that he was first quoted saying this after checking his first email!

Tancredo Neves *****--____--*****)00(President of Brazil ): was apparently murdered in cold blood by a vengeful god for merely making a passing joke! But upon reasoned critical thinking, it's more likely that it was a coincidence! If there was a god and she was all powerful, why would Neves have gotten all the votes?

Marilyn Monroe **(Actress?)* was really hot. That's it, I just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page on Marilyn Monroe.

Please, for the love of god, don't pass this on because if you do everyone you know will instantly realize that not only are you a nutter religious person, but you're shallow in the faith you seem dead set on forcing down people's throats! Also, what miracle did you get? Can you demonstrate that it was a miracle?

Is it just me or is that barely iterate chain-letter insinuating that god is a rather petty serial killer? I've said far worse things about god in my life. I guess I get off the hook because I wasn't famous, so god must not have gotten word of it.

Quote from: "Will"I abhor that format.

Try this:

[Abridged]

You should send that version back to the sender.

There's a girl from a school group I'm in who always forwards all this kind of stuff, and I find it annoying as hell. I remember one of the forwards she sent which was complaining about gay tolerance and about prayer being taken out schools, and it actually started by saying "If this offends you, I don't care." They always  originate from someone's office mail at city hall with the little "for office use only, please report any violations, etc..." at the bottom. I've always thought about reporting it.

It's just ridiculously frustrating, because if I were to send a similar email to the office that spoke ill of the Christianity I would be reprimanded as soon as I clicked 'send'

But these little 'harmless' christian chain letters get passed around the office like Mrs Buttersworth at an all you can eat pancake dinner.

I think I'll wait until tomorrow and send out an office-wide email asking if anyone forwarded the previous email and received a certifiable miracle.

I got this forwarded email from my sister-in-law yesterday:

QuoteFLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY
In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.

Frakkin' believers.

I'd tell the person who sent it that I didn't appreciate the tone or message contained in the email.  But, I know everyone in my office well enough to approach them personally.  Honestly, anyone that isn't an arrogant idiot should know better than to send controversial, political, and/or religious messages around the office...there is a time and place for such topics.

MommaSquid, if you google "atheist holiday" it brings christians talking about april fools day.

I've always thought of making a blog posting only bad news like murders, race hate attacks and such linked to christianity, just to see how active it'll end up. Who is with me?

I got the atheist holy day email a few months back. I did a reply to all with the link to it's page on snopes.com which entirely debunks the myth. When I first got the atheist holy day email I thought for sure no one would be naive enough to take it as anything more than a wishful joke, but the comments passed on when many forwarded it showed the opposite.  :upset:

I'm in CA and I don't know how the law here compares to TX. I haven't studied a great deal of law. This is my understanding...

By law, religious belief and non-belief are protected characteristics. If you complain to your supervisor, I think what usually happens, is they have someone talk to you and talk to your coworker and put a note in her record. They could also take disciplinary action. Supervisors and managers are obliged by law to let it be known to everyone who "needs to know" that you took issue, because they are agents of the company and by telling them you have essentially told the company. It escalates. So decide if you want that to happen. I personally would talk to her directly first. But very carefully. She could pull the same thing on me if I wasn't careful about what I said.

The law is pretty stupid in this regard I think. Only in America.

I think it should be treated as an efficiency  and workplace capacity issue. Just today, our systems guy emailed everyone with a warning to delete all frivolous stuff or he might be forced to limit our send and receive capacity. Anyone who sends ranty dreck or Urban Legends to the "All" address is misusing the company email.  And at my workplace, everyone is working doubletime fast and would be enraged if they received and had to open non-work-related messages to "All." (Now, CuteOverload forwards to specific employees are different--I know that all beagles must go to Dana, all turtles go to Donna, all chocolate labs go to Marya, etc--these are welcome, brief breaks.) Seems like you could complain to HR or Systems about the time and capacity wasting aspect of such absurd emails.

Hey, I've decided to make some edits to that Email:

QuoteDID YOU
KNOW THESE THINGS PEOPLE TOLD ME

I SURE DIDNT TILL NOW*

Very interesting, read until the end.....

It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7):

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Here are some men and women

who mocked God:

GOD DOESN'T NEED A SECOND COMING TO GET THE JOB DONE.

Lennon, Some time after saying "We more famous as chirst now" , was shot five times by a christian fanatic after months of americans burning Beatle albums in hatered.

GOD HAS IRONY.

Tancredo Neves**(President of Brazil):*

During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency.

Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before being made President aged 75 with bowel problems, then he died after many operations.

GOD KNOWS GAYS ARN'T HUMAN, LIKE THOSE PESKY JEWS.

Cazuza **(Homosexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet):*

During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ),

while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into
the air and said: 'God, that's for you.'

Cazuza died in Rio de Janeiro on July 7, 1990 at the age of 31 from an AIDS related illness.

After the construction of Titanic, a reporter asked him how
safe the Titanic would be.

With an sarcastic tone he said:

'I doubt even God could sink it'

He shouldn't have been worried about god....

GOD HELPS WITH DRUGS.

Marilyn Monroe **(Actress)*

She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a
show.

He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her.

After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said:

'I don't need your Jesus'.

A week later, she was found dead in her apartment after commiting suicide with sleeping pills.

Bon Scott **(Singer)*

The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he
sang:

'Don't stop me; I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell'.

On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he
had been choked by his own vomit after drug and alcohol overdose.

GOD TAKES CARE OF THE CHILDREN!

Campinas**(IN 2005)*

In Campinas , Brazil a group of friends, drunk, went to
pick
up a friend.....

The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried
about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the
daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the crowded
car:

'My daughter, go with God and may he protect you.'

She responded: 'only if he (God) travels in the trunk, cause there isn't enough space in the car.'

Hours later, news came by that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died (Even the mother),

the car could not be recognized what type of car it had
been,
but surprisingly, the trunk was intact.

The police said there was no way the trunk could have
remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a
crate of eggs, none were broken. There is no evidince of this happening, but I trust in god.

Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist and entertainer)

said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever
written.

In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her
motor vehicle. There are no records of this but it's true because a christian told me.

Many more important people have forgotten that there is no
other name that was given so much authority as the name of
Jesus.

Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he
is a Zombie.

I corrected some "FACTS"

Thanks guys.

And thanks Will!

I included a large portion of what you wrote in the email I sent back to her (and a few other people in the office... I didn't send it to the office distribution list like she did) Hope you don't mind!

I pointed out that the email is purely speculative and irrational. I cited cases of Christians suffering untimely deaths (missionary plane crash, ect) and asked why their god didn't protect them in those cases. Missionaries flying to do more of god's work is a hard sell on why god would have a better plan for them dead. I mentioned that not only is the email offensive to myself, a non-believer, but to other Christians that feel the tone paints their personal god as a sloppy serial killer. The email concluded that office email distribution lists should not be abused to waste all of our time with such senseless drivel.
