The phoenix lander plunged down into something not quite solid at the Martian north pole a while back. Recent analysis of a few photos of show what is almost certainly extremely salty water consolidating on one of the lander's struts. Water might stay liquid for a time even in the extreme Martian environment if it's briny enough apparently.
