I know this is a very cliche thread on a forum, but I am interested on this one. You all are different than the other forum I go to.
So what kind do you all listen to? I have no idea :p which is why I'm so interested. Especially feeling like I'm the youngest one here, I think what I listen to is most likely different.
I like rock/metal/some rap, I can stand R&B and that stuff, and country at times. I actually don't mind Bluegrass :p (but it's not the first on my list, of course). But I love Progressive stuff, I love the complexity of it all.
My favorite bands:
All-time favorite: Dream Theater (Progressive rock/metal, only heard them scream in ONE song out of all their albums, and it was a light background one, it was called In The Name Of God :p, great song), these guys are just... AMAZING. Definitely one of the most talented bands ever arranged.
The Human Abstract (Progressive metal)
Between the Buried and Me (Progressive metal)
Into Eternity (Metal, with some progressive influence)
System of a Down (Rock)
Seether (Rock)
(OLD) Avenged Sevenfold (Nu Metal, I think, to be specific)
Senses Fail (Even though I haven't heard much of them) (Rock)
Hellyeah (Ehh... Metal)
Job For A Cowboy (DEFINITELY metal)
Can't remember anymore right now xD
I don't if you all have heard of any of them, but I LOVE the first 3 of those.
If I listed ever band I listen to it would be a very, very long list. So, here a just a few:
Mercenary
Children of Bodom
In Flames
Dream Theater
Pantera/Damageplan
Death
Nevermore
Devin Townshend Band/Strapping Young Lad
Shadows Fall
Five Finger Death Punch
Queensryche

Vision Divine
Edguy
Blind Guardian
Iced Earth
Demons & Wizards
Journey
CCR
Boston
Savatage
Killswitch Engage
Black Label Society/Zakk Wylde
...that's it for now, I'm getting tired of typing bands...

Those are all the ones of those I've heard of. Yeah we got Damageplan's 1 CD, unfortunately they could only do one... It's a shame.
Lol I forgot about SYL, haven't listened to them in forever. I got Shadows Fall, like 3 songs on my iPod, but we got a whole on of their albums on my computer, I think. If not, my older brother has one. I got Iced Earth's "The Glorious Burden" CD in my iPod and in my room, I got "Terror Train" by Demons Wizards on my iPod, and a few random Killswitch Engage, though I don't listen to them really. And "Leeches" by In Flames, also, though I don't really listen to it.
And yay you got DT on there :p
Oh yeah, been listening to DT since for a long time. I remember getting the When Dream and Day Unite album - honestly I thought it was cool but wasn't super impressed and then getting Images and Words and I was like "wow, now I'm impressed".

I first heard "Panic Attack" on Octavrium after my dad had just gotten it (He's been listening to them for a long time), then been listening to them since then. I have heard all of Octavrium, except for Octavrium :p, Train of Thought, Systematic Chaos, and Scenes From A Memory. I have heard some of IAW, I love Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper (Did I get that right?) on there, that is an absolutely amazing song. Then I've started listening to Awake.
Awake is an awesome album, definitely their darkest one I think.
Eric Lewis on piano at a TED talk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFSNR8t5KdY). He's amazing.
Flyleaf
Fireflight
The Subways
Disturbed
Rammstein
Paramore
Breaking Benjamin
Coldplay
Evanescence
Three Days Grace
System of a Down
The Pistolas
The funny thing is, Flyleaf and Fireflight are considered "Christian bands." Is it weird for an atheist to be listening to Christian bands?

Why would religious belief impede a band's ability to play music? I sometimes listen to Christian radio when I'm driving just because the lyrics are generally quite positive and uplifting even though they're mostly nonsense. It's like watching a science fiction movie. You have to suspend your disbelief

Not at all, I still rock Stryper sometimes:

How odd. If my iPod were to be accidentally exchanged with yours, I don't think either of us would notice.

I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet. Lol only gotten almost through the 2nd song :p
Can't stop listening to The Human Abstract 's "Nocturne" album... Amazing.
But Train of Thought I thought was pretty dark. And their song In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 2 is pretty dark, especially for being over 16 minutes long!
Wow. I've never heard of any of those bands you guys posted. I guess because I'm young, 20, and wasn't raised listening to rock music particularly. Anywho, I listen to all kinds of music, except country. One of my all time favorite bands are Death Cab, Radiohead, NaturalCalamity and Pink Floyd. I mostly listen to hip-hop though. My favorite artist would happen to be Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Norah Jones, Coldplay and Jay-Z.

Lol, you're not that young. I think I'm still the youngest one on here xD
Go me.
And NO WAY you listen to NaturalCalamity! I couldn't tell! :p
Lol I've never heard of them. I don't listen to any of those bands.

Wow, a lot of you have such fantastic taste in music. I love all the Rock and Metal bands posted, and I adore so much more too: Classical, Jazz, Techno, Rave, Noise, Electronic, and all other eccentricities of this sort. I love Benoît Bôls’ taste, for instance! At the moment I have discovered an amazing Pop band, but they come from Japan and serve as a boyband. Accordingly, on youtube you mainly see adoring girls making comments about how gorgeous the band members look. As an example, though: NewS: ‘Sayaendo’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vuixepp_Dro&fmt=18).

Japanese music has produced two good things: post-rock (like Mono and World's End Girlfriend) and Nobuo Uematsu.

The Japanese have a lot of things to listen to. If one wants noise, Merzbow shows how variated it can be. Another noise artist is The Gerogerigegege.
Brast Burn had put out an unusual, improvised album called
Debon. A good prog album from Food Brain,
Social Gathering, is worth seeking out. If you want more of a Kraftwerk sound, Yellow Magic Orchestra is worth a listen, as well as Logic System.
If you're looking for something Floydian, the Far East Family Band is a good listen, too.

You know, I always thought that, uh, dogs... laid eggs, and... I learned something today.
Downloooaaaiiiiiiii mean purchasing those discographies as I type.

I mean, any music done by
this guy has just got to be gold.

I'm almost suprised at what good taste in music everyone here has, but I guess I shouldn't expect anything less from my atheist brethren

I like MASONNA best. He appeals to me the most. He mixes elements of punk and psychedelia with sounds akin to steel barrels exploding, a sound which he can harness like a spray paint can, with lots of vocal experimentation. Plus he looks amazing too. Pure Rock Star, that guy. I’ve even seen him live. He performed quite a long concert by his standards. I think it may even have hit the 8 minute mark.

I like a lot of bands on your list but I totally and utterly adore the ones I’ve quoted above!
Most of what I listen to is underground or relatively unheard of, however some more recognizable names would include
Alkaline Trio
Anti-Flag
Bright Eyes
Coheed and Cambria
Children of Bodom
From First to Last
HIM
Jacks Mannequin
Ludo
Nightwish <3
Rise Against
Sonata Arctica
The Used
I like most modern rock, any intelligent metal (aka deep lyrics, complex music, and good vocals), some electronica and techno mixed with rock, and a few decent rappers (DZK and Immortal Technique).
Quote from: "Godless"The funny thing is, Flyleaf and Fireflight are considered "Christian bands." Is it weird for an atheist to be listening to Christian bands?
Absolutely not, there are plenty of Christian bands I like and my 2 best friends who are atheists like. I think it's quite common.
Atheist forum has good music taste. If ever there was a reason to risk being thrown into the lake of fire, this sure is one

***obvious sarcasm, there is no lake of fire but people never get sarcasm anymore***
Quote from: "Kodanshi"I like a lot of bands on your list but I totally and utterly adore the ones I’ve quoted above!
Will you marry me?
I don't think I've ever met anybody who listens to that many of the same bands that I do. Or at least not that many bands across the whole spectrum that I listen to.
Secular ceremony only!

My exâ€"girlfriend’s seen a fair few of them live. I’ve only seen Lacuna Coil, Muse, My Dying Bride and NIN live, but she’s also seen Metallica, System of a Down, most likely a fair few others. She keeps the concert tickets, you see. When we first started to hang out with each other I’d tell her I liked a particular band only to have her pull out the concert ticket from her box! Jammy sod.
Oh, and livefastdieyoung: I love Nightwish too, though I prefer them most when Tarja Turunen sang for them. I also adore, and have seen live in Bradford, Children of Bodom. I also like Sonata Arctica and The Used and would love to see them live.
