I've been contemplating whether or not I should buy any atheistic clothing to wear to public, specifically to school. I actually found that there are a lot more atheists and agnostics than I originally thought. People who I assumed were religious, or at least had a belief in God, were actually not. There are still some religious people in my area, even though I live in a somewhat liberal area (northern Virginia). I'm interested in shirts that just say "Atheist," "Freethinker," "Teach Science, not Fiction," and a shirt depicting hands in prayer with a phrase below that saying "Stop Talking To Yourself." What do you guys think about atheist clothing?

I don't know, I guess I'm just not that big of a fan of putting messages on clothing, but that's just me.  I'd probably view it as just the polar opposite of someone who wore a shirt relating to god or a religion.  I don't find it necessary, but again, that's just me.  I'd much rather have people talk to me if they want to find out my views than read a shirt I'm wearing.

I think people are more offended by atheist clothing than they are at a big "FUCK YOU" on a t-shirt. It's about fear and the unknown. Someone sees a big picture of a middle finger and the message is clear: I'm rejecting society and am generally unpleasant. Someone sees something obviously atheisty, and the message isn't so clear to them: I reject your religion, your worldview and your god; you do not understand me and I probably teach your children; I am the thing that is wrong with society.

Then again, I like pissing Christians off, so, eh.

I have one with a unicorn on it and my husband has one of the devil burrying fossils; both say teach the controversy.  I'd rather wear stuff that gets across a message that people can potentially understand rather than simple things like just having "atheist"  or "heathen" written across a t-shirt.

Just avoid that t-shirt of the nun masturbating and you should be fine.

I think something a little less obvious (but not so vague no one would get it) may be better.  Those smart enough to figure out what it means are worth talking to if they show interest, those that aren't can be avoided because they won't know the difference. I think most atheist slogans would go unnoticed in the UK. If noticed, then it would be to say how cool they think my shirt is. Of all the amazing slogans out there, i'd probably not have any of them emblazoned over my shirts. I'm not really into atheism enough to warrant it and i'm not trapped in a dogmatic enclave of society to give me the impetus to react

IMO agnostics are the true freethinkers, but w/e.

I'm sure it has many other variations (not that I can think of at the moment)...but it wouldn't make much sense to use a secualar version of it for this purpose, would it?
