Title: hooray for science!
Post by: jrosebud on January 23, 2009, 08:00:14 PM
and texas!  today the texas board of education voted down the silly nonsence that put evolution on equal footing with id in the science classroom for the past ten years.  it's a pretty big deal, as the majority of textbook manufacturers use texas as the standard.  now my kidlet (and children across the nation) will get a better education, for they will be teaching science in science class.  :)

I saw that and was going to post about it, but I just posted two other news stories and didn't want to blow up the airwaves.  :D

Fantastic news, by the way. I did a little happy dance when I read it.

I am pretty damn proud of my state for taking this much needed, and much delayed step. Especially in the face of so much opposition!

No, some people were trying to push it into the classroom.  When I went to high school there was no mention of any creationism or ID (this was before ID anyway) but also we just seemed to kinda skip evolution and went from basic genetics with drawing Punnet Squares to ecology focusing on stuff like conservation and environmental issues - I had a very poor biology education in high school.  Therefore I had to make up for it on my own and when I started back in college.

I think you made up for it, and then some.  ;)
