Title: Lowest common denominator programming
Post by: Wechtlein Uns on January 02, 2009, 02:47:22 AM
So, for new year I was watching the "new year's party celebration" in new york(I have no life, I know.), at a family friend's house. It was a pretty lively evening, we played monopoly, Fable II, rock band II, and classic mario videogames. But back to the tv:

Did anyone else think that that programming was scripted towards the lowest common denominator in american society? It struck me as frivolous. Wasteful. Superficial and shallow, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone.

Now, I like to have fun as much of the next guy, but my fun usually involves high level repartee(sorry, no accents.

I have found over the past 40-some years of being exposed to TV around the world (but mostly in the U.S.), that it has always been mostly programmed to the LCD. We went from three networks of frivolous crap to hundreds of channels of ridiculous crap. Yes, there has been lots of good programming over the years, and yes, I like to suspend my brain and take in a load of brain-wasting stuff now and then. The nice thing is that we can pick what we want to see or not. Last night was just a total waste as far as New Year's Rockin' Eve, or whatever it was. They really have to stop Dick Clark from getting on the tube. It's just sad. And can anyone tell me why Kelly Pickler was given a live microphone and put on the air???!!! Gah!
LOL!

I stood home too. I watched the ball drop on CNN but, they also felt the need to discuss Gossip Girl, The Hills and other garbage. (no offense to anyone that watches) They redeemed themselves when Kathy Griffin, yelled at the hecklers... I have the sense of humor of a 13yr old boy :D
