Title: Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam
Post by: curiosityandthecat on December 18, 2008, 05:24:06 AM
Has any fan of Cat Stevens shied away from still being a fan after he fled the country and joined Islam, becoming Yusuf Islam? I'm just curious. Cause, man, this song is amazing (overlooking the whole "for you to be saved" and "for you to know His name" stuff).

I'm getting "Embedding disabled by request" when I try to play the vid.

Anyway, I love Cat Stevens. I'm not so much into muslim prayer, though.

Yes ... although I don't exactly switch him off when his old stuff comes on the radio, I wouldn't even buy his greatest hits now.

Meh. I don't really care what his religious views are. He's just a musician in my eyes.

Slight diversion ... is Gary Glitter "just a musician" in your eyes?

Yes he was a musician. He is also a paedophile.

So, Cat Stevens is as vile as a paedophile, in your eyes?

How about this, stop trying to be so controversial and confrontational. This isn't really a flame forum.

I consider the religious indoctrination of children to be a form of psychological abuse but no that isn't what I said, I was simply trying to establish that being "just a musician" isn't necessarily the only factor one considers when deciding whether to listen to a given artist or not.

I'm aware of that so how about you stop putting words in my mouth?

Yes, and as much as I abhor religion for what it has done to the earth, I cannot in good conscience equate it to paedophillia. Your example was pretty sick and not really relevant - hence my stance that you are being deliberately controversial.

Would it be apt for me to point out that my cousin was a victim of a paedophile? Therefore, making you feel guilty and uncomfortable for something you couldn't have possibly known, just like you did with me when using your dead brother as an example on why you don't use drugs?

I've never liked people who get off on creating uncomfortable situations just for the hell of it, especially when using it as a tool to feel superior.

Consider yourself ignored by me.

And, for reasons already stated, you'd be wrong.

It might well be but I didn't accuse you of anything merely stated I didn't find it funny.

And that's what you think I'm doing? It's obvious, to me at least, that you completely misunderstood the point I was trying to make.

Quote from: "karadan"Consider yourself ignored by me.

LOL! It's OK if you wish to do that as long as you understand that I feel no such compunction to do the reverse, despite our differences of opinion I think you're a fairly smart bloke ... this is the first time I've seen you do anything I'd consider really silly.
