I'm curious. Imagine that.
How many of us have body modifications? I don't necessarily mean the obligatory female ear piercings or the ridiculously over-played tribal armband. What else? I'll go first.
Piercings: 0
Tattoos: 5
1. Large tribal across my upper back.
2. Large tribal on my stomach, moving down below my waistline.
3. Chinese symbols on my upper right chest saying "In Memory of Father" (literally translated as "Respect for the One Who Carries the Stick")
4. Pink Floyd tattoo on left inner forearm
5. Pink Floyd tattoo on right inner forearm (I like Pink Floyd)
Your turn.
My current modification wasn't intentional, but I've grown to love it in a way. I have a plastic tube where my descending aorta would normally be. Does that make me bionic? Yes.
I also pierced my tongue when I was in high school. It was done with the singular mission of having a vibrating tongue stud. It was awesome. It also was an incredible nuisance when I wasn't using it. I only had it for maybe 4 months and I decided to remove it.
I have one tattoo. The only interesting thing about this tattoo is that the other person who had the same design is now dead. Not my fault.
I got nuttin'. I do enjoy Chinese letters and big Samoan tattoos, though. I am a graphic designer and a doodler by nature.
OK, I've got a little one on my arm.

They're not Chinese letters; they're Chinese words.

æˆ' means I, æ,,› means love, and ä½ means you, thus æˆ'æ,,›ä½ means "I love you." Not really letters. Incidentally, if you're ever around a Chinese or Japanese, don't refer to them as "characters"... they tend to get slightly insulted, heh.
Some of my hair is blue/green/purple at the moment. It's not a permanent change, but meaningful to me, nonetheless.

I love crazy hair like that. It screams confidence.
sure, curio.

quite a few people have asked me why i colored my hair (or called me emo for it *bah!*). it wasn't to rebel or to be a part of group. i simply love colors (blue, green, and purple are my favorites) and dyed my hair as act of joy.

Couldn't agree more. Emo is an insult in my circle. :)

Yeah, I do that.
Piercings: Only earrings (does that count as 2?).
Tattoos: No, but I would absolutely love to have one of a dragon standing on top of the smashed remains of a cross, a star of David and whatever the Islamic symbol is ...my wife would be most upset so I don't

Kyu
Nothing. I have rather a lot of moles so as much as i'd like a tattoo, it probably wouldn't be a good idea.
I do, however, have 5 tiny titanium springs sat in the epigastric vein in my left leg. The reason for this is to restrict the blood flow to a certain part of my body because i once had a varicose vein. It was an experimental precedure at addenbrookes hospital. I was one of the first to have it done apparently
i only have earrings (eight: three in each earlobe, and two cartilage on the left), but they're meaningful to me. for several years i've been marking the end of the summer with an ear piercing, around my birthday. i'm symbollically taking the entire year, i suppose, the good and the bad and everything, and putting it away at that time. in my mind, the new year starts in september.
i've often thought about tattoos, but it's really hard to settle on a design and be sure i wouldn't change my mind. the only really big constant in my life that i'm comfortable sharing with everyone is my vegetarian/almost-vegan lifestyle, but i have yet to really find something to symbolize that. i think because i don't have external symbols to rely on, i tend to attach heavy meaning to my personal symbols, and if i'm going to wear anything around on my skin, i have to be really sure i want to display it.
I have an ear piercing. I've thought about getting a tattoo of the Clifton suspension bridge across my back, though I'm not sure (it'd cost money and it's hard to imagine how it would look). But the bridge is to Bristol what the sky needle is to Seattle: iconic.

I would like to get a tatoo of the characters I've created across chest. Would really like a tatoo of a geisha, somewhere on my body... don't know where though.
hmm...don't have any tatoos right now though. too expensive.

Oh my god look at that gut. I think If I were to get a tatoo on my stomach, I would first need to get flat abs. definitely.
Ooh! I likes this thread, I does :D
I have 4 tattoos:
1. A horrible bearded unicorn on my back, one of the shoulder blades, never can remember. Homemade tat gun, friend who had no idea what he was doing.
2. A rough-looking storm cloud with a lightning bolt above my left breast. It was done initially with a needle wrapped in thread and dipped in ink, then re-done in a professional shop. You can still see all the dark dots around the solid lines.
3. A REALLY horrible semi 2-hearts with what was supposed to be ribbons going around them and names on the ribbons with an arrow going through the hearts. It SHOULD have been really pretty... but I was drunk, the artist was drunk, homemade tat gun... it's a LONG story.
4. A very pretty K with stems and flowers and dots on the inside of my right ankle. The only one professional from the start and very bright and pretty.
Piercings... Right now, I have 4 in my right ear and 3 in my left. 13 years ago, I had labia piercings with suspended bead rings and one of the beads migrated INTO the flesh, so I had them both removed by a surgeon. 10 years ago, I had both nipples pierced. I very quickly learned that large mammaries and piercings don't co-exist well... it was nearly impossible to soak them (I was using a huge latte mug at work... LOL!). They lasted about 6 months. I tried again shortly before I got pregnant (with a bunch of ladies in a bisexual ladies group I was in... wow, it was a fabulous experience!!!), but again, it was just too hard to take care of them so they could heal, so I gave up altogether. Unless I lose weight, the ears are the only things that will be pierced.
I'd be a dangerous alterna-chick if I was in a different time and place... and about a 100 lbs smaller.

Yes. I'm a big Pink Floyd fan too! :) Additionally, how do you feel about body modification? [/quote]
I have a scar on my right arm and that's about it

Tattoos improve some people, although I have none myself. Excessive piercings I think are grotesque and disturbing.
I was hoping to get a brand as well as a few tattoos and an eyebrow piercing.
Unfortunately
I have to wait 2 years, or until my mother dies.

So noted. Thanks.
I have a stretched lobe piercing (4g, it's not a ridiculous size) in each ear, and a centered labret. My first piercing was my eyebrow, but I ended up not liking it too much and took it out after like 9 months. My parents were afraid I would go to hell for my piercings...

I have three tattoos myself and am considering a fourth, I just don't know where to put it yet.
Alright. My zodiac sign on my right shoulder (taurus). Worked into a 3 quarter sleeve. The juggernaut on the same arm, inside biceps. IPU symbol on my inner wrist with the word "atheos" in greek letters and translates into "atheist" on the top wrist. The filler on my sleeve is green and purple with skulls worked into it. My left inner wrist has a symbol I have drew up that is basically my middle name bunched together (uriah). With a peace sign directly below it. My left biceps has a nautical star. Lip and eyebrow is also pierced.l
I have a nose piercing (hoop not a sparkly dot), a tattoo on my right foot that takes up most of the right side and a large tattoo on the left side of my left leg. I plan on getting a 3/4 sleeve once I have the money for it. The sleeve is sort of difficult to explain... but it will be super cool. Oh and I have purple and gold highlights. Somehow I still manage to pull off looking like a nerd...not even remotely tattoo-cool.
i have a small butterfly on my back that I either need to get more work done to or consider having removed later down the road (or continue forgetting it is there like I do now). I honestly didn't hear the term tramp stamp till after i got it; was fine till someone explained what that location was associated with; so more work would be to run it up the side or something; will need a tatoo artist to help figure out what to do. Will also have to find out how good of a job removal does; if there is a high chance of scaring then it's not an option because I scar easily and would rather have a colorful mark than a scarred ugly one.
I also have a very small (half dollar sized) doric column on my right outside ankle that I designed myself...it's very simple; what a doric column would look like in tribal art.
When I was younger i would mess with the meat machine all the time, lots of ink, piercings. I once hung a guy off a cross with 36 halibut hooks (he was a professional suspension artist) and did a full on ritual with him hanging there and then I branded him (at his request) that was a lot of fun. I know several performance artists who do this sort of thing and its meh-whatever, its just a meat sack and its yours do whatever you want with just dont expect me to be interested or fascinated but pictures might be cool! I'm much more fascinated with how the psyche can be played with and tweaked.I think if one is going to get ink or pierced..or hang off of crosses with fish hooks...it should be a personal experience done solely for the purpose of activating the psyche to higher levels of awareness, that seems to be best use such actions can be put too. I have a tiny black swallow on my hipbone about the size of a quarter. The tattoo artist was really really shady, but I was right out of high school and the excitement of rebellion and the bonding experience with my best friend were more important than the quality of the tattoo. :P

Tornado tattoo on my right arm. Drew it myself. I'm a stormchaser so it fits.
No tattoos. I like to think of myself as a blank page. I have a piercing on my left ear, which my mum did when I was about 5 or 6, which I don't use and which has probably (hopefully) healed over inside.
I used to have a lot of piercings, but kind of got tired of them, plus it hurts to get them snagged on stuff.. just not worth it to me.
I have my monroe done, and ears pierced.
I have a tattoo of flowers that takes up most of my back.
I have a blue bird on my collar bone.
I'm working on a half sleeve that is a bird scene.
I have stars on my hips.
thats about it I guess lol !

I have two tattoos - One on my back (a cross, unfortunately, from when I was a religious teen)
- One on my foot ( flowers)
My ears are pierced, and I did have a tongue piercing, but I took it out after a year. I found it clanged around on my teeth too much.
I would like to get my back tattoo covered up sometime, but I can't think of what I'd like to get.

What kind of flowers are on your feet?
Also how big is the cross on your back?
I have apple blossoms and a pitcher plant on my foot. I used to live in an apple orchard when I was a kid and I`m currently living in Newfoundland (the pitcher plant is the provincial plant of Newfoundland), so that`s the significance there

The cross on my back isn`t too large. Maybe 4 by 6 inches. And it`s not super obvious that it`s a cross, some people think it looks like a compass or just a neat design, so it`s not too *Jesus-y*, thankfully.

My latest ink, found on left upper arm from shoulder to elbow. The tattoo artist thought it was really cool until he had to start stenciling it... then, as he put it, "Rage began to swell within me." Gamers will recognize it as the L'Cie brand from Final Fantasy XIII.

I'm not usually a big fan of tattoos, especially really large ones, but that could be because I see so many really bad ones. I have to say that yours are absolutely awesome!
I also saw a great couple of tattoos recently on a guy in my local Apple store. His were on his upper arm and shoulder, and they were the best I've ever seen. Just great artwork.

I know the feeling. Right on the shoulder blade hurts, so does directly on the spine. Well, it's not so much the pain as the "bzzt" sound like at the dentist, since it's right over the bone. Ugh.

It'll be in the same spot so it's considerably more visible than anything else I have (I can wear an Oxford dress shirt with the sleeves pushed up and you'll never see any of my ink even though I'm now up to 6 tattoos and they're mostly big). Probably wait until I land a faculty position somewhere and get it as a celebration.

<--- (that'll be me)
Quote from: "McQ"Quote from: "missedtheboat"Thanks for the compliments! I'm in love with it too! I think it looks so realistic!
The shoulder and the inside of my arm was more painful than the rest, but it wasn't bad AT ALL...if I had the money I would've sat there all night :)

Quote from: "missedtheboat"Hey! Thanks a lot! There are a lot of BAD tattoos out there! I'm picky about where I go, and what I get.. especially since it is going to be on me forever. I drove about 1.5 hours away for this tattoo.. so worth it haha. What did the guy at the apple store have on his arm?
The guy at the Apple Store had a Tall Ship and a Sperm Whale and they were pure, beautiful, art. He went to the one place within several hours' drive of where we live that has a reputation for perfection and beautiful tattoos. It shows.

Quote from: "DeterminedJuliet"Ooohh! Nice! Did it really hurt over your collar bone? I imagine that would be a painful spot.
Somewhat off topic, but sort of a body mod....love the new avatar. I guess body painting could be called body modification, right?
Quote from: "missedtheboat"You should post photos of yours! but not like the ones on /b/..right?
