Title: Bad Religion and Religion
Post by: nikkixsugar on December 06, 2008, 12:21:20 AM
A good group I like is Bad Religion. They're good, hardcore punk. They have good atheist lyrics (even though some of them have religious or Deist beliefs.) Anybody else?

I like Bad Religion and Manson.  Of course I also like pretty much something from every genre...including some winter songs (like let it snow and stuff like that).

There are several by Rush ("Faithless," "Roll the Bones," and others).  I also like "Dear God" by XTC.

I've not heard of Bad Religion but i will certainly look them up.

I'm really into Incubus at the moment. I think they are great.

Bad Religion is excellent. As is Disturbed. Though I don't know if I would classify them as an "Atheist band" I know their lead singer is. And I do like many of their lyrics.

I love Bad Religion. They've been around since the early 80's and they are still putting out great CDs. Their lead singer has a Ph.D in biology. If you're unfamiliar with their music check out "The Empire Strikes First". They've put out another CD since that one but it's a good place to start. The stuff form the 80's is great, too. The DVD "Live at the Palladium" came out in 2006.

I'm one for jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Trey Anastasio, the guitarist and singer of Phish, is very skeptical of religion (people assume he's an atheist) and I'll listen to anything from any genre except country and mindless rap. Other good bands are Radiohead, Tea Leaf Green, STS9, Iron Maiden (Even though there may be a few religous lyrics here and there they are talented), Dream Theatre, Dimension X, and Pink Floyd. I haven't ever really heard of an "atheist" band though, like those religious bands. It would be interesting to hear one though...(I mean purely atheist, not just a lyric here and there.......but usually there aren't bands promoting the abscence of an idea.......)

And this is ironic, I know, but Matisyahu (Orthodox Reggae Rapper) is extremely talented if you can get by some of his religious lyrics.

Isn't there a band called "atheist"?

Apparently so since I found the band on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Atheist/e/B000APH98G/).  They are described as "Byzantine death-jazz".

I haven't but I would like to. Judging from their DVD they put on a great show.

Bad Religion is okay, I just never got into punk much outside of the Ramones, Sex Pistols and the Misfits. Rush is one of the greatest bands for atheist lyrics. Freewill is f*cking awesome!!

I'm a big Rush fan. I've only seen them live once, though. Have you watched their latest DVD? It has a lot of songs off of Snakes & Arrows. I'll get it eventually. I have all the others.
