New Mohammed Cartoons pops out. Originally in http://lapotuak.wordpress.com/ (http://lapotuak.wordpress.com/) but wordpress has quickly suspended the blog. The creator post it again, and now can still be viewed in http://www.faithfreedom.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58757 (http://www.faithfreedom.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58757) (its in english).
I actually don't share the same purpose with the anti-islamic guy that draws it. Just to give you picture about it, its portraying Mohammed in some sex position (pretty suicidal huh). But i believe he has a right to draw that. Am I wrong in this?.
And now the whole country treat it like national disaster, its like serial killer on the loose.

Indonesia Abuzz Over Cartoons Belitting Prophet
By Mohd Nasir Yusoff
JAKARTA, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Indonesia was abuzz Thursday over cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad which appeared on an Internet blog, and Islamic organisations protested vehemently against the belittling of the prophet and called for the blogger to be arrested and penalised.
Police have appealed for calm while they investigated the appearance of the cartoons on the blog in Batak, one of the local Indonesian languages.
A police spokesman said it had yet to be proven that the cartoons were the work of someone of another religion who wanted to belittle Islam and that the server and blog were not hosted in Indonesia.
Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh said his ministry would track the blogger and impose appropriate action under the law.
Muhammad Ismail Yusanto, spokesman of the Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia Islamic organisation, said the cartoonist should be sentenced to death.
Antara reported that the blogsite was the work of a Batak individual because it was hosted in the "Batak Toba" language.
Meanwhile, an Internet technology expert often used as a source of reference, Roy Suryo, said it could not be confirmed that the blogger was of Batak descent as anyone could have posted the cartoons to tarnish the image of the Bataks and spark inter-religious strife.

I believe you are right! Whilst I don't personally want to go on a crusade against Islam or Christianity (creationists? Well that's a different thing) I think he has the right to say it.
Wasn't it Mark Twain who said something like, "Whilst I don't agree with what you say I would defend to the death your right to say it"?

I thought Voltaire said that.

My problem is that many people (not just moslems) use "religious tolerance" as the reason to condemn everyone that offends Islam. The cartoonist is called intolerant to Islam. (maybe he is, but that's not the point). We know that Da Vinci Code, and the film Jesuschrist Superstar is offending Christian, but when it comes to Islam, the standard is different. Well, it seems that Islam is very successful on controlling the opinion of others by using violences and death threats.

That's the problem with these cartoons! They are always drawn with an anti-muslim agenda, although they don't always admit to it. The muslims knows this and are duly offended. That having been said:
QuoteBut i believe he has a right to draw that. Am I wrong in this?
Nope. I think that Voltaire was right in his definition of free speach. That's why I have involved myself in an initiative acting against the
DurbanII proposals. If you don't know: It's the islamic world trying to get the UN to equate criticism of religion with racism! As you stated:
QuoteMy problem is that many people (not just moslems) use "religious tolerance" as the reason to condemn everyone that offends Islam.
A smart move, but highly offensive to me.
QuoteAnd now the whole country treat it like national disaster, its like serial killer on the loose.
I know, its complete and utter madness... I'm from Denmark... My embassies and flag are being burned because of these silly cartoons :eek2: So the standard is actually the very same.
Also: I think it is a point where the cartoonist comes from. I don't know the cartoonist you are writing about. But most of the danish cartoonists - and certainly the newspaper that originally started the mess - are explicitly anti-muslim! So in accordance with Voltaire, I'd give the muslims that one... it's pretty descriptive, not normative.
QuoteWell, it seems that Islam is very successful on controlling the opinion of others by using violences and death threats.
I don't agree at all. Again: I'm Danish and one of the cartoons were printed for the umptienth time in a newspaper here a couple days ago. And don't say that we haven't experienced violence and death threats en masse on that account. :pop:

Quote from: "url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltaire#Prose]wikipedia[/url]"]The most oft-cited Voltaire quotation is apocryphal. He is incorrectly credited with writing, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.†These were not his words, but rather those of Evelyn Beatrice Hall, written under the pseudonym S. G. Tallentyre in her 1906 biographical book The Friends of Voltaire. Hall intended to summarize in her own words Voltaire's attitude towards Claude Adrien Helvétius and his controversial book De l'esprit, but her first-person expression was mistaken for an actual quotation from Voltaire. Her interpretation does capture the spirit of Voltaire’s attitude towards Helvetius; it had been said Hall's summary was inspired by a quotation found in a 1770 Voltaire letter to an Abbot le Roche, in which he was reported to have said, “I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write.â€[3] Nevertheless, scholars believe there must have again been misinterpretation, as the letter does not seem to contain any such quote.[4]
Are these the pics that were posted on loljesus.com? If so, they were truly hilarious.
The more Muslims it offends, the better. They offend me with their hypocritical ways and their barbaric treatment of people and animals in the name of their god. It is about time someone stood up and offended them and kept offending them until they realised that no matter how many fatwah's they put on people, we will still keep offending them, because it is funny. Most muslims forgot how to laugh centuries ago.
Luckily for me, I look just like that little dudes, so in case muslims start going on rampages killing infidels, all I have to do is wrap my head in a bathtowel and they'll pass me right by.
Joking aside, I think everyond get's offended when they're religion is called into question. The muslims just think they have the right to kill people who do so. And for good reason, they didn't have the enlightenment. or the French.
Oh my FSM, look who's here! We meet again Karl K. It's me, Raito, from the yahoogroups. Is it just me, or the internet keep getting smaller and smaller :-D
Anyway, you are absolutely right about this one. It's sad to think that these Islamic militan fundie in Indonesia, has gain more power and influence over the years (instead being cornered and deemed obsolote, like they ought to). And it has come to the point where i actually cringed and sigh in despair, everytime i saw or hear them, and i'm supposed
to be a part of the majority here! (native, muslim). I can only imagine how the minority must have felt, to live in this wackaloon infested country.
But look at the bright side... err... i got nothing :-(
*facepalm*

Actually it was a misquotation of Voltaire. "they were first used by Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing under the pseudonym of Stephen G Tallentyre in The Friends of Voltaire (1906), as a summation of Voltaire's beliefs on freedom of thought and expression." (from Wikiquote)
A similar thing happened in Hollywood. Atheists began rioting outside a writer's studio after a comic strip with nothing written on it had been found.

Get it?
