I'm sure most of you know about the Sharia Courts being set up in Britain. Because it has manifested itself in a nation that is much less religious than America, do you guys think it would eventually find its way into American society? Discuss...
I'd like to think we're too smart for that... but I think it might be inevitable. There's me, being a gloom-and-doomer again.
That might be when the religious war starts.
I have a simple solution for that problem: show them the middle finger. If they don't like the laws of our countries, they can pack up and go home and become suicide bombers for some obscure cause or another or something.
In fact, don't show them the finger. Put them on a plane and bye-bye darling.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all for people complaining when they are dissatisfied, but I think major law changes should be decided by a vote among all citizens.

As a Brit I'm not quite sure how this works .... I know that Jewish courts already exist and in that sense I can have no objection unless I object to them as well (which of course I do).
The courts are set up but are not as high as UK national courts, that much I know ... what I don't know is whether, having submitted to the judgement of these lower courts, you still have recourse to the higher ones. If so that does make it fairer I admit but I still have a problem in that if the system exists people might be peer pressured into using it and not being able to take it higher.

No, is the answer. Britain is less religious than America but it's a society that has become built on a new-age definition of 'tolerance'; ie. the active division of ethnic and religious groups. Which is ironic double-think, in a very Orwellian sence, considering 'tolerance' is something that you wouldn't normally associate with racism. Yet here it is being employed to describe the very thing that incites it.
To add to that, it's probably deliberate. The people who run this country dissolve liberties and talk endless, illusive fluff, without a shred of sincerity, in order to hide what they're actually doing. And the people who live here are too stupid and complaisant to even notice most of the time. No one cares that they can't protest in certain areas (ie. outside parliamentary buildings) without police permission, or that they're being watched constantly by CCTV cameras with facial recognition software, or that ID cards are just around the corner. No one cares that the Magna Carta has been obliterated and people
certainly don't care about this. In all honesty, I don't care about it either.
America may be run by a bunch of vapid, neurotic Pop Idol contestants but, from what I've seen, it doesn't look like they've been hit with the 'tolerance' bug just yet. If their impenetrable shield if international bigotry and snide, ignorant antagonism protected you from a decent health service, it should easily protect you from this as well.
