hello everyone, i hope this finds you in good circumstances.
My name is Kawano (not really this is the internet for crying out loud), i come to this forum in search of scientific and logical answers and challenges to my current train of thought.
I was raised in the deep American south forced to attend southern baptist churches constantly, and against my will. This was step one on my very short journey to do what few "christians" ever do, question the bullshit story that has been fed to them by those who are even more ignorant and helpless than they are. but i digress,
anyway like many of you (i assume) if find myself freed from the mental bonds of ignorance and stupidity that the church once had on my life. But for some reason or another I find myself still clinging to the belief in the supernatural or unexplainable. Now this very well may be a lingering physiological effect that organized religion is having on my psyche, but tend to lean to the idea that my own personal life experiences (outside of religion) have left a profound questioning nature as to the existence of that which is truly supernatural and dare i say it "spiritual".
now i did not come here to be insluted for my ideas or "beliefs".
i come here for intelligent discussion with a group of people who have freed themselves from the brainwashing ignorance that is organized religion.
thank you for your time
Kawano

Typically, the only ones here who insult beliefs are the trolls.

Welcome! You'll find your story is, as you expected, quite common. Glad to have you!

Welcome to the forum
Kawano. I can relate to your situtation in some ways.
After I rejected organized religion and dogma, it took a little while longer to let go of the belief in the supernatural...I
wanted to believe there was something out there that was spiritual and yet had no connection with religion.
Eventually I decided it was just wishful thinking; so unless we get scientific evidence proving otherwise, I'm comfortable with my current mindset.
Welcome, Kawano. I was also raised in the South, and forced for most of my life to attend Baptist church, so I can definitely relate. Were you part of AWANAS? Well, I was king of Awanas.
Anyway - there's lots of baggage when you realize you just can't believe anymore. I was certainly where you are. You've come to the right place, though. It's an easier transition when you have the support of like-minds. Hope you find that here. Cheers!
Hello and welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the introduction.
Welcome to the forum, Kawano. While I have always been an atheist, I have a large contingent of Southern relatives of the Baptist persuasion. I understand how those folks are, and I'm glad you've managed to get out from under that mindset.
No one here is going to insult you or your beliefs. Everyone is welcome here, even believers (as long as they behave themselves!)
Welcome to the forum Kawano. Don't worry about being insulted; members here tend to be really nice to anyone even if they don't agree with their belief. I'm actually really happy with the types of personalities this forum tends to attract...it keeps all of the discussions more interesting and enjoyable. The only exception are the trolls which do get used as stress relivers at times
