Title: hows the el-summer-o?
Post by: tacoma_kyle on August 04, 2008, 09:34:26 AM
I've been kinda flaking on most boards I use to visit for the last few months. How's the summer been for everyone?

So yeah I am back. I think I did the same thing last year around this time. But I wrecked my truck that time and got all depressed. :raised:

But for once, I have actually had a pretty bad-ass summer so far. Not that others have really blown or anything, just always worked and vegetated a little excessively. Errr maybe just didnt do anything fun really. Hell I've even been in one of the bible-humper dominating regions of Oregon the whole time!

Highlights for me.... I got a new bike!!!!!!!!!!!!! Believe me, I am still much more excited than you could imagine and I have had it for about a month. Last year I bought a new computer, this year something equally cool but much more awesome in many ways. I'll spare everyone cause the shirt off one is a little close to NSFW lol...

But yeah today me, a friend and his sis went out rafting on the Rogue River. Pretty bad-ass. Kinda wished I brought a six pack of Drop Top but a little rum and coke orked out pretty well. The water was cold and nice!!!

Also if anyone cares I accomplished something this summer, believe it or not. I I needed to draw up a engine adapter in CAD to mate a bellhousing to a transmission. Probably took a total of about 10 hours to complete. Then got it water-jet cut. It works!!!! The big thing is it is difficult to measure and find the shaft rotational centers of the engine and tranny, then line them up. I only have about 2-3mm of play that I can get from loose bolts when attaching them. I dont feel like resizing that one to 600 by 450 though. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/ ... t/num1.jpg (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/tacoma_kyle/Celica%20Project/num1.jpg)

Welcome back!

My summer has for the most part been working, sleeping, playing XBox, surfing the waves of WWW, working, sleeping... You see a pattern emerging here?

 :pop:

I do plan a trip to Denmark from 15th to 19th though. Get meself a little real vacation.

nothing much just sitting on my computer and wasting my life away heh
I did (re)start scuba diving which is a plus for me, and me and my friends are planning a three day holiday to the akamas region for the august religion holiday.
I did test drive the car I want to buy and I guess that was the highlight so far

We went to San Francisco, my girlfriend finished her thesis, I made a few hundred dollars for taking pictures of food, and I shaved my head.

You know... the usual.

Cool bike! My summer was spent thinking on which classes I want to take.I'm still unsure but something in counseling looks nice.Maybe with teens.Other then that I spent alot of time swimming, putting in a pond and playing with Sony Vegas.

Summer? What's that? I have vague recollections of warmth and sun . . .

This is my busiest time of the year. I haven't had a day off in almost 2 months. I spend every day in front of a computer designing stuff for people and my evenings working on my house.

I miss camping and canoeing and drinking way to much on a patio and mountain biking and swimming  . . .

Now I'm depressed.

Same with me. Just work, work and more work. Luckily I still have my summer vacation waiting for me. In three weeks time my wife and I go to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Two weeks of sailing, drinking, eating and relaxing.

Nothing special this summer for me...just working.  I need to use up some vacation time but will probably wait to take it in September once it cools off here.

I use to go out there with my family every summer.  I love the Outer Banks...don't forget to go see the wild horses in Corolla.  The light house grounds in Corrolla usually houses a couple temporarily captive wild horses http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/ (http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/)  But, you can also see them running around wild if you are lucky (they like to hang out in a raised shopping center just off the main road.)  Also check out  http://captnfranks.com/ (http://captnfranks.com/) for lunch and http://windmillpointrestaurant.com/ (http://windmillpointrestaurant.com/) if you want to have a nice dinner in an interesting place (the whole restaurant is outfitted with items salvaged from a sunken cruise ship...go upstairs to the bar while you wait to be seated).

Hey, Kyle! Glad to see you again. Also, very impressive job there! Well done. The pictures look nice too. Great bike!

My summer is zipping by. All work, no play yet. I'll take three days off in two weeks to go to the beach.
Oh well. At least there's beer.

I hope everyone is having a nice summer.

Of course you're a Rennie! Yet another reason for people to like you.  :D

I'd say come out and see the PA Faire, but since I'm no longer in the cast, screw it!

How are Don Juan and Miguel? Have they changed any parts of their shows lately? I'll be seeing them when they get out here in a few weeks. Always enjoy time with them.

Wow, new bikes, ren faires?  Working?  Wow... busy summers!   :)

Right now, the kid is at camp for a week and the hubby took the week off so we could just veg out together.  It's amazing how quiet the house is without the kid.  We knew he talked a LOT but the silence right now is vivid (yes, bright and colorful silence!).  We're doing movie marathons... so far, we did the "American Pie" trilogy last night... today, we did some more brain-dead movies ("Josie and the Pussycats" and "Romy and Michelle"), a triller/action ("National Treasure 2"), a drama ("Gattaca"--- WOW!!!!), and a fantasy ("Spiderwick Chronicles").  Tomorrow, we're considering doing a Kevin Smith marathon ("Chasing Amy," "Dogma," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," and the best one, "Clerks II").

We like to do a six-degrees thing when we watch movies... with a linking actor or character, or marathons of same actors, concepts or themes.  This is gonna be a fun week!!  We also hit the store and got tons of unhealthy goodies that we don't let the kid eat.  We're basically being kids for the week.  Hehe...

We have three weeks of back to summer normal then we have our third annual cruise to Alaska.  Can't wait for that!!!

Now, I just have to get to the doctor to get another insulin prescription to send to the PITA mail order pharm... my old one is 2 weeks shy of one year and it should have one more refill on it, but they won't fill it because it's a year old.  NO IT'S NOT!  But they won't do it.  AND my doctor has switched to on-call only, so I have to see a new Dr.  I really didn't want to do that during my vacation, but oh well.  Ugh.

laetusatheos, yeah my mom loves me, she isnt fond of the atheist thing though. haha

Thanks for the welcome back MCQ!

rlrose328, make sure and get some bomb-diggidy photo's of the glaciers. It seems they may not be quite as remarkable for much longer. The blue iced ones are fuckin cool. I've only seen photo's, but yeah.

The el-summer-o has been mucho mucho busy, work and kid care and too little time for forums.  I've kept the garden watered during the massive oppressive heat wave we are having here and we've fit in several trips to the lake and park for my daughter, as well as helped her maintain her little observational menagerie of opiliones (daddy long legs havestmen), snails and grasshoppers with many highly unwanted lectures on the ethical husbandry and timely release of earth's creepy crawlie lifeforms, cage cleanlinesss and the importance of adequate spongey water sources.

I am so jealous! We had a big family vacation to North Carolina a couple of years ago.Just the drive alone was worth it. 9 hours but still beautiful.Where are you two planning on going?Emerald Isle was perfect everything so close and we rented a house right on the beach. I fail to mention that we had 5 kids, and 7 adults.

This will be our third Alaskan cruise in as many years... we love Glacier Bay!  It's so peaceful and quiet and gorgeous.  The only thing that wrecks it is the smokers who hog the walkway smoking while we want to take photos.  Ugh.

In 2006, we saw a beautiful glacier that had recently calved, so there was a huge blue spot on it... it was gorgeous!  Here is a page about our cruise (http://www.croppincorner.com/cruise/cruise.html) with some photos of the glaciers (link at the top takes you to the bottom of the page to see the glaciers).

I'm so anxious to go a third time!  We got a cabin with a window this year!  Woohoo!  And to finish up the summer (late), we're doing a repositioning cruise for our 15th anniversary.  We get on the ship in Seattle, cruise overnight to Vancouver and then come back on a bus.  Short and sweet, but it's so cheap for those types of cruises, we got a suite!  Pampering, here I come!  And the kid stays with friends.

We'll be staying in Corolla at the "Hampton Inn And Suites Outer Banks" (http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hote ... cn=OBXNCHX (http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=OBXNCHX)). My wife and I haven't made concrete plans yet of what we're going to see. Most important is for us the relax since the year has been very stressful. What do want to see are the wild horses in Corolla and explore the region a bit. We also booked a sailing course nearby.
